Sharon COSTELLO Obituary

COSTELLO, Sharon H. Sharon H. Costello, a recent resident of South Hadley, MA, and previously a resident of New Britain, Manchester, and Bolton, died Saturday (November 14), at Hartford Hospital from complications arising out of a rare blood disorder. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Don; sons, Dan and David; Dan's wife Brittany and their sons, Demetrius, Tieren, Sagan and Keating; and Sharon's brother, R. Kingsley House of Idaho and his wife Judy and their adult children, Bill, Beth and Mary. She also leaves behind four cousins and their families, all from her paternal House clan, Shirley Grebeldinger, Eileen Siegel, Thomas House and Carolyn Antrim. People whom Sharon cared for are too numerous to mention, but her long-time friend and college roommate, Gladys Winkworth of Rochester, NY, must be listed because she has been so special to Sharon, Don, Dan and David. The family is very grateful for the care given to Sharon by Dr. Robert Siegel, the staff at the Gray Cancer Center, and all the special people who work on Bliss 5 at the hospital. Much time was spent there over the past few years, and the level of care and concern was greatly appreciated. Sharon's pleasures in her 67 years of living included raising two wonderful, much loved sons, family gatherings, especially with the grandsons, traveling, cooking, book discussion groups and creating ceramics. After graduating from SUNY Albany in the mid 60's, she worked as a caseworker, a mother and housewife, a desktop publishing specialist, a paralegal, and an executive assistant. Especially satisfying to her was her final position at the Connecticut Housing Investment Fund, a nonprofit group that aids developers, buyers, and owners of low-income housing. While being a reserved and somewhat shy person, Sharon had a tough core that got her through several challenging episodes in her life. That core helped when illnesses struck in recent years, episodes that she endured stoically, with grace and appreciation of those who helped her in so many ways. A memorial gathering in Sharon's honor will be held on Saturday, December 5, 1 p.m., to 5 p.m., at the New Britain Museum of American Art, 56 Lexington Ave., New Britain, CT 06052. Donations in remembrance of Sharon may be sent to that same organization.

David,
Sorry to hear of your mom's passing. I always remember your mom with a smile on her face. I remember the time she took us to the Hartford Theater in eighth grade and she was so sweet to me. May your memories keep her smiling in your heart. Thinking of you.

Don,

You have my deepest sympathy on the loss of your beloved Sharon. May the love of those around you and the love of God, help you through the days ahead.

I have so many fond memories of Sharon. I remember her excitement over her travels and family visits. Ernie and I went to Croatia last year largely due to the photos and stories that Sharon shared with me.

She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed. She touched many lives and you may never fully know the positive impact that she made.

Sincerely
