Eugene F. Costello, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away on February 1, 2026, at the age of 72. He was born on March 26, 1953, and throughout his life embodied a spirit of loyalty, a caring nature, and a distinctive dry sense of humor that will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Eugene is survived by his devoted wife, Maria “Ria” (née Pasquarello); his sons, Steven J. (Aubree Brown) and Nicholas E. (Sierra Martin); and his siblings, Mary Lacy; Denis (Joanne); Dolores C. Gallatig; Kathleen Tabb (James); Joseph (Cathy); James; Peter (Eileen); Nancy LaPorta (Charles “Chic”); John (Stella); and Michael (Patti). He was predeceased by his sister, Teresa Doyle, and by his parents, Dennis T. and Mary E. (née Lennon) Costello. Teresa is survived by her husband, Tom Doyle.
Eugene was a man of diverse interests and passions. He thrived on competitive sports, particularly as a basketball player, and took a keen interest in history. He often shared joyful moments with family through walks and picnics at Boathouse Row along the river and at Paddock Park, reflecting his love for the outdoors. He enjoyed taking his beloved pet companions, Milo and Darla, on walks to the park with neighborhood dogs, making new friends along the way.
Some of his favorite times included spending time with family and friends, enjoying Ria’s delicious cooking, and getting to know his future daughters-in-law. He enjoyed his daily coffee—particularly Wawa Colombian brew—and a quick bite of a McDonald’s McDouble. Eugene also cherished time spent on Brigantine Beach, creating lasting memories with family and friends.
Eugene’s adventurous spirit was highlighted by one of his proudest accomplishments—hitchhiking across the country—an endeavor that spoke to his fearless character and spontaneity.
Relatives and friends are invited to Eugene’s visitation on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., followed by a brief memorial service at 11:30 a.m. at The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA. Interment is private.
IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, donations in memory of Eugene F. Costello and his nephew, Little Michael Costello, may be made to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP): give2.chop.edu
