Patricia Rosoff Obituary

Patricia Rosoff's life ended all too soon on Tuesday, March 25, 2014. In addition to being a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, Patricia was a painter, art critic, lecturer, and board member. But first and foremost she was an educator. Born on July 22, 1949 in Turlock, California she crossed the continent in 1967 to attend the Rhode Island School of Design where she met and married her husband of 42 years, Neil. Pat began her 39 year career as an educator at Kingswood Oxford School in 1975 rising from classroom teacher to Creative Arts Department chair to Academic Dean of Humanities. Along the way she added motherhood to her credentials with the birth of her beloved son, Jared. She earned a Masters Degree from Hartford Art School where her love for abstract art developed. Her award-winning abstract painted works have appeared in numerous solo and juried group exhibits and are cherished possessions of many private collectors. Pat carried over her passion for abstract art into critical writing with articles appearing in Art New England, Sculpture Magazine, Hartford Advocate and Arts Magazine, among others. Her recently published book Innocent Eye: A Passionate Look at Contemporary Art was one of her final proud accomplishments. Doing her best to serve the local art community, she was a board member of Artists in Real Time and was recently named a Corporator on the board of University of Hartford. An artist's scholarship established in her name by an anonymous donor is awarded each year at KO. Left behind to cherish her memory along with her husband are son, Jared, his wife, Betsy and their son Arlo, her mother, Barbara Jean Caine, siblings Michael Caine and wife Linnie, Beverly Vanderberg and Barbara Joyce Caine, Mother-in-law Blanche Rosoff, sister-in-law Jill Cristo and partner Bob Seaman, nieces Stacy Cristo and husband Ben Hall, Shiloh Ferreira and husband Jeremy, Kirsten Asturi and husband Ira and Elizabeth Raven, nephews Chad Cristo and wife Melissa and Brandon Vanberberg and wife Michelle, along with legions of past and present students, colleagues, artists and friends. Through her tissue donations Pat continues to serve her community after death. A private funeral is planned with a public memorial service to take place at Kingswood Oxford on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Pat's name to support the arts at the Kingswood Oxford School, Office of Institutional Advancement, 170 Kingswood Road, West Hartford, CT 06119. To The Rosoff Family,

I didn't know Patricia, but knew many people that went to Kingswood and have lived in West Hartford for decades. I am so sorry for your loss. What a very special person she was and what a terrific difference she added to people's lives. Her contribution to this community speaks volumes. If you look at her smile, it is evident how much she loved life and was a very kind person.

The entire Kingswood Oxford community is devastated by the loss of one of our giants - a gentle giant, an inspiration to so many, a most wonderful colleague, a treasured friend, an individual who always, always saw and brought out the very best in others, who saw light and potential where noone else did. We will miss Pat's presence, her keen intellect, her sense of humor and unique and infectious laughter, her deep caring and commitment to our school and community. Our hearts go out to Neil, Jared, Betsy, Arlo and the rest of Pat's family. Pat, Thank you for 39 most incredible years at KO during which you touched the lives of thousands.
