Anna Trahim

Anna Trahim, 90, widow of her second husband Boris Trahim, passed away after a very short illness Friday (September 11, 2015). For the past 5 years she has been living in West Hartford. One of her joys there was to walk almost daily in Elizabeth Park, visiting the ducks, geese, and even herons. When she arrived from Germany after WWII, one of many Ukrainian displaced persons of her generation, she lived in Bridgeport and then Stratford. To support herself and her daughter ( by a marriage to her first husband), she worked for over 20 years at American Fabrics, a factory in Bridgeport. She was a member of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church where she loved singing in the church choir for many years. Her long life included surviving the famine imposed on Ukraine in 1933 and being sent alone to forced labor as a young girl on a German farm. She was an extremely hard worker all her life and seemingly fearless. She will be very missed. She is survived by a daughter, Nina Sakun of Hartford; and a niece Zina Kholodenko in Ukraine. Funeral services will be held Tuesday 9:30 AM at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain. There are no calling hours. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport.
