Thomas Britt Obituary
Thomas Edward Britt, Aged 79 Died at his Connecticut home on September 20, 2016 He is the son of the late Mark and Jane Britt, of Winter Garden, Florida, and was preceded in death by his sister Costance Britt Holland, of Orlando. He was educated at The Staunton Military Academy, Staunton, Virginia, Sewanee, The University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee, and Rollins College, Winter Park. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, a life member of the Connecticut River Museum, and The Essex Corinthian Yacht Club. There are no survivors. Inurnment will be private.

Tom was a longtime friend of my family. He and I met when he joined the English faculty at the Episcopal High School in Virginia. A frequent guest at our home for years, Tom was one of the kindest and funniest people I've ever known. When I was 11 years old he gave me a subscription to The Village Voice for my birthday; my parents would have been appalled had they ever read it. Thanks to Tom I learned about Jules Feiffer and Andy Warhol and performance art and the underground NY art scene long before anyone else my age. I resubscribed every year. I had to get Tom to explain who Susan Sontag was and what she meant by "camp" - subjects that were frequently mentioned in The Voice. I last heard from him about two years ago, and I'm sorry I never called to check up on him. He was a wonderful friend to everyone in my family. I miss him already.

Tom, What a lot of fun we had at cello lessons, especially when you would yell at the cello! Rest in peace with music of the cello singing beautifully forever.
