Russell Pound Obituary

Russell F. Pound, Jr., 85, of Bloomfield, beloved husband of Carol (Dunning) Pound, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 29, 2017. Born in Plainfield, NJ to the late Russell Sr. and Ruth (Moffit) Pound, he served his country proudly with the US Army during the Korean War and was a West Hartford resident for many years before recently settling in Bloomfield. Russell was a banker with Connecticut National Bank, formerly Hartford National Bank, for many years before retiring as a Senior Vice President & Manager Commercial Operations Division. He was very active in his community, a member of the Harford and Mystic Lions Clubs and a past President of the Ledyard Lions Club, West Hartford Chamber of Commerce, West Hartford Rotary Club, served as trustee of the Children's Museum and on the Executive Committee of the Operations Division of American Bankers Association, American Legion and the Old Guard in West Hartford. His dedication to his community earned him many awards including the Community Service Award from the West Hartford Chamber of Commerce and the Noah Webster Award for Extraordinary Commitment to the West Hartford Community. He was also a volunteer driver with the American Red Cross, and a loyal volunteer for over 22 years with the West Hartford Department of Human Services Food Pantry. In his spare time he had enjoyed motorcycling, fishing, admiring the water on the lake, playing dominos, traveling, golfing, photography and was a Civil War buff, but his true passion was his family, especially his grandchildren, to whom he was known as "Poppy". Russell is survived by his wife Carol Pound of Bloomfield; his daughters, Debra Sponzo and her husband Frank Jr. of East Granby, Sandra Davey of San Diego, CA and Lee Ann Eshenbaugh of San Diego, CA; his sister Karen Pound of Lakeside, AZ; his grandchildren, Jennifer Dyer and her husband Jeff, Kelly Davey, Anthony Sponzo, Zackary Eshenbaugh, Thomas Eshenbaugh and Christopher Davey; and his great-grandchildren, Devon, Jeffrey, Cameron, Parker and Brooklyn. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, August 19 at the Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave Windsor. His family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday from 10 AM to 11 AM. In lieu of flowers please make a memorial donation to the American Cancer Society, 825 Brook St. I-91 Tech Ctr, Rocky Hill, CT 06067 or the CT Dept of Veterans Affairs, Business Office Attn: Angela, 287 West St Rocky Hill, CT 06067. Condolences to family of Russ Pound. I knew Russ for many years while working at Hartford Natl Bank and Conn Natl Bank. Was at many meetings when Russ would walk in and place his motorcycle helmet on the meeting table saying with a smile "OK, we can start the meeting now."
