Mary Hughes Obituary
Mary (Sapatas) Hughes, age 85, of Meeting House South, Simsbury, wife of John Hughes, died October 26, 2017 at home after a lengthy battle with lung cancer. She was born April 17, 1932 in Astoria, Queens NY City, NY, daughter of the late Lucille (Kirkikis) Sapatas and George Sapatas and had lived in Simsbury the past 50 years. Besides her husband John, she is survived by a son Michael J. Hughes and daughter in law Lynn (Sakala) Hughes of Boxborough, MA and a daughter Barbara A. Manning of Simsbury, CT; four grandchildren Heather (Manning) Eckler and Brian Manning and Kevin and Rachel Hughes. Two sisters, Marian (Sapatas) Petra of North Babylon, Long Island, NY and Pauline (Sapatas) Vouris of Palm Gardens, FL predeceased her. Mary was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who was regarded by all who knew her as a humanist and people person. Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury on Monday, October 30th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, October 31st, at St. Mary's Church, 942 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury. Burial will follow in Simsbury Cemetery.
