Lise Waxer Obituary

Lise Aerinne Waxer, suddenly, after a brief illness, passed away on Tuesday, (August 13, 2002) at Hartford Hospital. Beloved wife of Medardo Arias; and much-loved daughter of Diane Yip and Peter Waxer. Sadly missed and survived by sister, Danielle Waxer; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Lovingly remembered by Auntie Barb. Lise, 37, was an author, musician, traveler, ethno-musicologist and Professor of Music at Trinity College, Hartford, where her love of music of all cultures was a joy and inspiration to her students, colleagues, friends and family. Before moving to Hartford in 1997, Lise lived in her birthplace of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and in Urbana, IL, where she obtained her Ph.D. All who knew Lise were touched by her love of life, her joy in sharing her discoveries, and her commitment and passion to the creation of a world where all cultures were equally valued and celebrated for their unique gifts. She will be sorely missed and never forgotten. A memorial service celebrating her life will be TODAY, August 16, 11 a.m., at the Trinity College Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Lise Waxer Scholarship Fund, c/o Trinity College, 300 Summit St., Hartford, CT 06106.

I realize this is 22 years late, but...I just discovered this very sad news. I was going through some old papers and discovered correspondents I had with Lise, we were pen pals back in the early 1980's, kids, I was in New Jersey, and she was in Toronto...back then, Toronto seemed like worlds away and I was fascinated to hear all about it. We would write letters, and sometimes record cassette tapes...it was so much fun. It's extremely sad when you discover something from your past, and get excited about maybe re-establishing and old friendship, and find your friend's story has come to an end. It sounds like she had a lovely life, with many loved ones. If anyone ever reads this, please accept my most sincere condolences.
