JANET H. PRESTON

1948 - 2016

PRESTON, JANET H., Janet H. Preston passed peacefully on September 1, 2016 surrounded by loved ones. She was 67. Janet was born on December 28, 1948 in Detroit, MI to her parents Lin and Lena Huang. She graduated from the University of Michigan as a Fine Arts Major in 1970. While at Michigan she met her husband, John R. Preston. They were married in 1970 in Ann Arbor, MI. The Prestons spent their early married life in Panama, Detroit, Cambridge and New York City. Janet first worked as an art teacher and then later, as a needlepoint designer for Erica Wilson. When the Prestons settled in Connecticut, Janet devoted her time to raising her three children. They were residents of Westport for 19 years. In 2004, the Prestons moved to Miami, FL. Janet gave her time to organizations in every community she was a part of: Friends of the Bronx Zoo, the Westport Young Women's League, numerous Parent Teacher Associations and most recently, BOOM, the Board of Outreach and Mission, as part of the Plymouth Congregational Church in Miami, FL. Janet's talents as an artist extended to many mediums: She was a calligrapher, an illustrator, a baker, a gardener and most passionately, a quilter. Janet made dozens and dozens of quiltsfor weddings and newbornsthat she sent off to family and friends around the country. Janet is survived by her three children and their families, including three granddaughters: Regan, Jordan, Maylin, Marlowe and Daphne Gal of Portland, OR; Lilly Preston and Nik Steinberg of Brooklyn, NY; Wells and Chrissy Preston of Seattle, WA; and her husband of 46 years, John Preston. She is also survived by her sister, Ruth Huang of Honolulu, HI and her brother Timothy Huang of Kerrville, TX.
