Wyatt Tyler Obituary

Wyatt Devon Tyler, age 21, passed away on March 25, 2017, in Brooklyn, New York. He was born to Suzanne deBoisblanc Tyler and Tom Tyler in Miami, FL, where he attended Riviera Day School. Spending his summers in New Orleans as a child, he finally moved to his favorite city at age 10, one week before Hurricane Katrina. He attended Metairie Park Country Day School and graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School. At Franklin, he blossomed into the person who he would become in the world. He was curious, inspiring, a deeply critical thinker, and his positive social nature sparked a desire for knowledge and introspection in others. He also developed a strong interest in politics, social justice, environmental protectionism, and the urgency to act on climate change. His scholastic aptitude led him to New York University where he pursued his passion for environmental science and activism as a defender of the Earth. He will posthumously receive his diploma from NYU College of Arts and Sciences this May. Wyatt was also an explorer and had the privilege to travel to Europe, Australia, Bali, Iceland, Brazil and many islands in the Caribbean. He had a special connection to Jamaica, where his father lived and he spent many summers and winters with friends. Wyatt's friends all know how much he loved them. He had a huge heart, and he never hesitated express to each and every person in his life how important they were to him. His contagious laugh, beautiful smile and all the fun and wonderful times we shared will remain in our hearts and minds forever. The family will receive friends at Jacob Schoen & Sons Funeral Home at 3827 Canal St, New Orleans, LA from 6-9 pm on Friday March 31, 2017. A memorial service will be held at Schoen & Sons on Saturday April 1, 2017, at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) or 350.org.

Our deepest sympathy to you and your entire family. Our daughter Katie became friends with Wyatt last year when they both attended NYU in Sydney Austrailia. His death is a tragic loss. As Katie said, the world was better with Wyatt in it--he was a shining star.

Tommy and Suzanne, Linda and I are brokenhearted to hear about your precious boy Wyatt. Our prayers are with you and we trust God to give you his peace, as only He can. We last saw Wyatt when he was just a little boy. We trust that we will see him again in the kingdom of the Lord. God bless you both!

My heart breaks at hearing this sad, sad news.. last time I saw him was 2008 in NO ... just spent some time on his Facebook page and can easily see so much joy, laughter and positive spirit that was in his life. Like many others, I too am at loss for words. I will be with you and your family in spirit this weekend as you all say your good byes.

My heart was broken when I heard about Wyatt. I remember being with him in the ocean when we were in St. Kitts and seeing him at Riviera Day School. Seems like yesterday. I am so sorry.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Wyatt's family. We met Wyatt when the Tyler family moved for a short time to Houston. Wyatt was a breath of fresh air and was immediately part of the AOS family. We have not forgotten Wyatt or his beautiful presence.

Wyatt was a blessing to have in my life as a friend for so many years. He was always smiling and brought love and laughter with him everywhere he went. He and our friendship will always hold a special place in my heart. His life is now an inspiration for others to share love with everyone they encounter, just as he did. Wyatt was a beautiful kind soul and because of this I have peace in knowing he is in a better place. I pray his family and friends find peace in knowing he is in a place so beautiful we on earth can't even begin to imagine it. I love you Wyatt!

My heart goes out to Suzanne and Wyatt's family. He was a beautiful young man with a vibrant spirit who always lit up the room. He was such a joy to have around when he and my daughter played as children. I am blessed to have had him in my life. I take comfort that he is in good company and I hope and pray that those he left behind can find peace.
