Sadly I have recently learned of the passing of Dr. Irving Lehrman. Dr. Lerhman to this day inspires me ~ was kind so kind to me when I landed in the US from overseas ~ I became a member of Temple Emanuel ~ I was always awed by Dr. Lehrmans' thoughts, wisdoms and eloquence and expressions. He and his dear wife were friends. Dr. Lerhman Performed my marriage ceremony, all the events in welcoming our son into the world and many other special family and spiritual/life events. Our world especially my world was so much better for his presence he ~ I often think of the wonderful Lehrman family ~ Dr. Lerhman will be sadly missed.

Many years ago Rabbi Lehrman patiently helped me to convert to Judaism prior to my marriage to Meredith Friedland in 1979. I remember him as a wise and very kind man. He even baptised me into the jewish faith in the sea on miami beach on a beautiful october day.

I will always remember one of his sermons at Temple Emanual just as hurricane david was approaching. He said " Do not worry ...a storm named David could never hurt us".

He was right, the storm passed by without incident.

Dear Roz and Family,

You know how sad I feel about the passing of Rabbi Lehrman. He was an inspiration to me and my family. When we arrived from Cuba, My father Sholem Epelbaum went to speak to him about our situation. He immediately invited me and my cousin to attend Hebrew School free of charge. Rabbi Lehrman officiated at my Bat-Mitzvah and married us as well as my brother and cousin. I have many wonderful memories of the Rabbi and the Temple. When he spoke you really listened. He had many words of wisdom. My father and the Rabbi enjoyed many conversations about Israel. He will always be in our hearts and memories.

Dear Mrs. Lehrman & Ros,

I want to extend to you both my sincere condolences on the passing of a man who was so instrumental in my life. From naming me in Temple almost 60 years ago and giving me the name Honey to Bat Mitzvah, Confirmation, marriage, and attending all the religious ceremonies of both of my children, I personally feel a great loss. As you may remember I literally grew up in the Temple and began my teaching career at Temple Emanu-El for 10 years. Rabbi Lehrman was an inspiration to me and someone I could talk to. I am glad that he and my Dad, Sam Katz, had such a close bond many years ago.

I am sure you have many good memories of him that you will always keep. My husband Irvin and children join me in wishing you strength at this time.

Fondly,

Honey

March 16, 2005

Rabbi Lehrman was an extremely influential person in my life. I was bar mitzvahed at Lehrman and went to the Day School from pre-nursery until the sixth grade. As a member of the congregation, I always looked forward to his benedictions at the end of shabbat services. They were given with such sincerity and the Rabbi's words filled the synangogue and beyond. He was a great man whose influence was a factor in making me a good jew and man altogether today. He will be missed but his affect in the Jewish community and society as a whole will live forever. Rest in Peace Rabbi. Respectfully, Mark Brill

March 13, 2005

Dear Belle and Family:

It is with great sadness that Helyne and I send you our deepest sympathy. Rabbi Lehrman was one of our true heroes, one of the greatest rabbis of our lifetime. I remember as a young boy growing up on Miami Beach how the Rabbi was our community leader, making us all proud to be Jews. His sermons were legendary. I was so proud to have been able to help in the rededication of the art of Temple Emanu-El. It was an honor to have been asked by Rabbi Lehrman as one of his last offical acts before he retired. With our love and sympathy, Ken and Helyne.

March 13, 2005

I have the most vivid memories from childhood of Rabbi Lehrman sharing his stories about life and all that we can accomplish. It is through his voice that I understood the meaning of being a Jew. Attending Lehrman Day School provided a solid beginning for me and my wife, Leslie, and I continue to share this foundation with our children now in attendance at the Lehrman Community Day School.

Howard & Andréa Kaplan

March 13, 2005

Our warmest thoughts are with the entire Lehrman family at this time. Rabbi Lehrman was there in so many ways to touch our lives. From my years as one of the first students in the Lehrman day school, to my Bar Mitzvah and then our marriage. It was a privilege to have such a special individual touch people’s lives in so many ways.

With great affection,

Rabbi Lehrman was my mentor at the Lehrman Day School, when my wife Florence and I undertook the responsibility to promote the growth and prosperity of the school. Rabbi selected me to be a President of Temple Emanu-el and what I learned from him has served me well and allowed me to pass on his wisdom and kindness to others.

His memory will always remain in our Hearts and Thoughts.

My heart stopped when I received the news of the passing of Rabbi Lehrman. What a sad day this is. I am suddenly flooded with emotion and memories of Rabbi and all of the wonderful and spiritual times that we shared. The wisdom, knowledge and support that he provided me personally, my family and the entire community. The lives he touched and the vision that he turned to reality. The Jewish community, no, the entire community of mankind should and will mourn the loss of this great man, scholar, teacher and friend.

Rabbi Lehrman always said that we should not morn a person's death but rather celebrate his life. There can be no more fitting a tribute to this great man than for each and every one of us to celebrate the life and accomplishments of Irving Lehrman.

Please convey my deepest sympathies to the Temple Emanu-El family. I may not be there in body but I have always been their in spirit and will always remain so. There will always be a place in my heart and mind for Rabbi. May a part of him live on in all of us.

We are heartsick. One of my foundest memories was when Rabbi asked me to do something and I told him I was sick and tired of doing that. He answered me with "shall I tell you I am sick and tired of being your Rabbi" Needless to say I did what ever he asked of me. We feel we lost a great man and more than that we lost a member of our family
