Glenn Carpenter Obituary

Glenn "Bud" W. Carpenter, Jr.

Glenn "Bud" W. Carpenter, Jr., passed away March 9, 2003.
Bud was born in Minneapolis, MN, July 15, 1926. At a very young age, he, with his family, moved to Everett, where he attended "old" Jackson Elementary, South Junior and graduated from Everett High School in 1944.
After a brief stint in the Navy and marrying his high school sweetheart, Alice Berry, he graduated from the University of Oregon in 1949. His first job was as physical education director with the Walla Walla YMCA, where he made many lifelong friends. In the early 1950's he returned to Everett and worked for a number of years for Sumner Iron Works/Black Claussen. From the 1970's until his retirement in the mid-1990's, he worked as a real estate agent for Dan Duryee at D.A. Duryee & Co.
Bud was always very involved with the community and with his family, coaching his children's Little League baseball and Chick Berry basketball teams, teaching them to swim and water ski at a very young age at Lake Stevens, to play tennis and various other games, including beach football at Clinton and Mission beaches.
Bud will be remembered as a regular at the Everett YMCA where he spent his lunch hour each and every day playing swatball and, in later years, pickleball. Bud loved the YMCA and was very involved in the Everett YMCA capital campaign and the significant renovation that took place in the early 1980's.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Alice Berry Carpenter, his parents, Glenn W. Carpenter and Edna Stuchell Carpenter, his sisters, Mary Jane Skewis, and Quinn Yoder and her husband, Joe Yoder.
He is survived by his sister, Patricia Ostlund, and her husband, Lyle, his brother-in-law, Harry Skewis, his sister-in-law, Betty Whitely, brother-in-law, Charles Berry, his four children, Jeep and daughter-in-law Katie Carpenter, Chuck and daughter-in-law Vicki Carpenter, John and daughter-in-law Marialy Carpenter, and daughter, Quinn Carpenter, his grandchildren, Crosby, Phoebe, Kelsey, Jennifer and Carliana Carpenter, and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.
Bud's family would like to thank his many wonderful friends and the dedicated staffs at Bethany of Silver Lake and Hospice for all their help, support and assistance during the past several years.
In lieu of flowers, the family would suggest that any remembrances be made to Bethany of the Northwest, Hospice, the Everett YMCA, or charity of choice.
A memorial service will be held in a few weeks, on April 19, 2003, at 1:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Everett.
