Jay Kershner Obituary

Jay Kershner
Feb. 21, 1941- July 2, 2010

Jay Kershner, loving husband, father, grandpa, brother and friend, fell asleep on July 2, 2010 to never wake again. Born in Spokane, WA to Ira Kershner and Marie Zumhoff, Jay lived most of his life in Stanwood, WA.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine Adee; six children; three siblings; and many grandchildren.
Jay was actively involved in the lives of his loved ones and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. His interests included gold prospecting, playing Texas hold-em poker and yelling at the television during Seahawks games.
He was a man of great ideas and dreams that surpassed reality most of the time. Always good for a laugh, Jay was a light hearted man who always saw the best in people and never focused on the worst. Always willing to lend a hand whenever he could, Jay never saw any situation through discriminatory eyes.
His passing has left a hole in all of our hearts as well as a hole in the pockets of the makers of shoe goo, hand sanitizer, and duct tape.
We will end this with a quote from Jay's favorite movie, Joe Versus the Volcano, "Dear God, whose name I do not know, Thank you for my life. I forgot how BIG… Thank you. Thank you for my life."
Forever we will remember to "Drive Carefully."
A celebration of Grampa's life will be held from 1-4 p.m., Saturday, July 17, 2010, at 14126 44th St. NE in Lake Stevens, WA.

As a kid I spent many summer vacations with the cousins in Seattle. Memories of those visits with Jay, Harold, Trish and Chuck still bring a smile to my face. The wood hydros towed behind bikes, pancake eating contests, the speedboat Jay built in the garage, the 'greggie' hole out by the alley. Back then, in the early days of rock & roll, Jay was pretty cool. I'll always remember the many fun times. And Jay will always remain my cool cousin.

My memories of Jay will always be of how sweet he was with the girls (Sydney and Eastlyn) at their birthday parties. I especially enjoyed the pictures and watching the video clips of him talking with Eastlyn at her 2nd birthday party last October as she wanted him to see her new baby doll. He took it in his arms and loved it and told Eastlyn what a sweet baby she was. That scene spoke a thousand words.

My thoughts and prayers are with you Cathy, Sherene, Dennis, John, Jillian, Barb, Jason, all the grandchildren, and extended family as you grieve the loss of your husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

I am sorry I will be out of town Saturday and will not be able to attend Jay's Celebration. I will be thinking of you all as you celebrate your memories of Jay's life.

I am so sorry for your family's loss. Someone put it to me this way and its so true: Brothers, can't live with them, can't live without them. In the last few months I have realized and remembered how much I loved my big brother. I hope you are all doing well. Keep in touch.
