Frederick Dee Lugar, 71, of Venice, Florida, passed away on Monday, September 4, 2017 at Venice Regional Hospital, four weeks after undergoing open heart surgery. Fred was a well known and well-loved member of the community and will be dearly missed
Fred was born December 4, 1945 in Marion, Indiana to Frederick Earl and Jeanette Hardacre Lugar. The family moved to Orlando in 1957, Fred graduated from Colonial High School in Orlando in 1963. He worked at Publix as assistant produce manager until he joined the Navy. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1965 to 1969. He was a very proud veteran serving on the USS INTREPID and USS ESSEX. He graduated Cum Laude from Seminole Junior College in 1971, earned his bachelor's degree of science from Rollins College in 1973 and his master's degree in business management from Rollins College in 1975. He was a proud member of the Venice Masonic Lodge, an active member of Sahib Shriners Clown Unit where as "Spanky the Clown" Fred won several awards and participated in many parades. Fred also designed software for CPA's called "Software by Spanky". Fred was a lifetime member of Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants, a member of the Venice Estate Planning Council, member of the American Legion, member of Venice Area Chamber of Commerce, attended Ringling Clown College, member of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, a founding member of the Sharks Tooth RV Club of Venice, and a charter member and lifetime member of the Sertoma Club of Venice.
Fred moved from Orlando in 1976 and opened his CPA practice in Venice. In 2012, he merged his office forming the firm of Lugar, Pope and Kraft, pa. Fred was a certified public accountant for more than 40 years and served hundreds of clients in the area.
Fred is survived by his wife, Jan Plough Lugar, three sons, Kevin Lugar of Venice, Florida, Jeffrey Lugar of Livingston, Tennessee, Brad Lugar of Cookeville, Tennessee, two daughters, Katie Houseweart (Eric) of Boynton Beach, Florida and Lisa Thaxton of Boynton Beach, Florida, four granddaughters, Renee Lugar, Mia Lugar, Allison Thaxton, Brenna Thaxton, and two grandsons, Hunter Houseweart and Chase Houseweart. Fred was predeceased by his brother, Terry Lee Lugar.
Services will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Venice Performing Arts Center, 1 Indian Avenue, Venice Florida 34285. Fred will be inurned at Sarasota National Cemetery on Monday, September 18, 2017 at 10:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund has been set up through the Community Foundation of Sarasota County for a Venice High School student who is planning to study accounting, based on need and not academic merit. I'm so sorry to hear Fred has passed. He was a delight to work with, always such a such a fun personality and a smart out of the box thinker. Fred always went above and beyond to help others. He will be missed very much by all who knew him. My condolences to his wife and his family.

So Sorry to hear about Fred what a great friend and person, a personality you never forgot, Fred helped my mom and dad when they moved to Venice in 1974 so I got to know Fred and his staff through my parents Tom & Sue Marshall with Fred doing there income tax.
