Roderick McKenzie Obituary

With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Roderick "Bo" Donald McKenzie Jr. on March 21, 2018. He was born in Mobile, Alabama on April 22, 1956. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Elizabeth Bostrom.
Bo earned a degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Alabama, while working as a rocket scientist at Battelle Labs. After graduation, Bo worked at Texas Instruments where he engineered reverse holography imaging and anti-radiation guidance modules to protect the troops. Bo later worked at Schlumberger and Halliburton designing wireline and logging tools to aid in reservoir characterization. He earned his MBA at the University of Houston and graduated at the top of his class.
Bo left Engineering to pursue a career in Finance. Shortly thereafter, Bo became a multiple recipient of the Wall Street Journal's "Best on the Street" award and was nationally recognized for his oilfield services stock picking expertise. He was a senior executive who helped build the energy practices at multiple investment banks, including Simmons, South Coast Capital, Jefferies, Royal Bank of Canada, and Seaport Global. Bo took immense pride in his work and his genuine and personable nature earned him great respect from company executives, business colleagues, and friends alike.
Bo was passionate about all things music. Bo loved writing and recording music, listening to vinyl, playing in bands, and attending concerts.
He will be fondly remembered by his children, Sean and Hillary McKenzie, the mother of his children, Wai Cheng McKenzie, his sister Ellen McKenzie, cousins Travis McKenzie, John Brennan, and Georgeanne Young, extended family, and his loyal dogs, Barclay and Colonel Angus. He will be sorely missed by the many friends and colleagues he touched in his life, who will forever remember his wit, kindness, and generosity.
Please join us in a celebration of his life on Saturday, March 31, 2018, at the Church of the Holy Trinity, 211 Byrne St, Houston, TX 77009 at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to VHI Save The Music, vh1savethemusic.org.

I was looking you up to wish you a happy birthday, cousin, only to find that you are gone. How my heart aches. What a brilliant and special person you were, ever since we were little kids! I cherish my memories of you. Today I send many prayers to heaven, for love and solace and healing, for your family and your friends and your pups. I'm so sorry I didn't get to say goodbye.

Bo,

Chinese New Year, Thanksgiving and Christmas will never be the same without you. We will miss your big laugh, silly jokes, funny stories and, most of all, your big heart. Dr. Seuss once said Remember me and smile, for it's better to forget than to remember me and cry." We can't promise that we won't cry, but we can promise you will always make us smile and that we will never forget you. You were a great friend, a caring big brother and a sweet uncle to our children. You will forever be in our hearts.

Bo was a very fine engineer, financial analyst, and knowledgeable on a wide variety of subjects which made for some interesting and delightful chats. Always a gentleman and I will miss those chats.

Bo, was a unique and wonderful human being. I don't know of anyone who ever met him who would disagree. Always full of wit. To say he was brilliant would be an understatement. I am sure he will be missed greatly. Rest in peace Bo! Rest in peace!Timothy von Fuelling Straus.
