Memories and Condolences

Not sure what to say?

My belated sympathy and condolences at Lloyd’s passing. I talked to Lloyd nearly daily when the Oilers had their Training Camp in Kerrville and had followed SWC Football closely prior to that. We were a Baylor Family. I went out to the 2-a day practices at what is now Schreiner University nearly every day and would talk to Lloyd before or after practice and would frequently see he and some of the other players at the only local hang out, the Bowling Alley, in the evenings. Every word that came out of his mouth could be repeated to God, his mother, wife, and kids with no regrets or embarrassment.

Lloyd was Extremely nice to me and filled me in on how the preseason games went. I really enjoyed his stories about dealing with Dick Butkus on the kickoff team. All was a tremendous life experience for a rural small town guy like myself.

Decades ago I purposed that I was going to find Lloyd and thank him for being so nice to me. But also to talk football. At the time searching for people was really primitive. In fact driving to La Marque and knocking on doors was the only thing I could think of. The internet came along and got more user friendly and the first thing I found at some obscure site was a liver cancer diagnosis which in my mind meant terminal. I was never able to get everything together enough to actually find contact information or an address to reconnect and thank Lloyd personally.

I was truly saddened by Lloyd’s passing. And hope family members get this expression of sympathy. And especially hope Lloyd and you all have made preparations for the next life. From the other guestbook tributes it appears that is all covered.

Respectfully and Blessings,

Robby Hurt

Loyd was one of those "special people" that showed his strength through gentle hugs, flashing smiles, and free-flowing tears when he heard beautiful music or talked about those he loved. We will all miss him terribly, but we are confident that he is at home where we will all (hopefully) join him someday.

Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. It was an honor to have known Loyd. He leaves a precious legacy of children & grandchildren.

Barbara,

We were so sorry to hear about Loyd.

We have many fond memories of our times together at Wildwood. It seems only yesterday that you and Loyd, Hoyt and Sally, John and Peggy and our selves were living our lives together, raising our children, going to church and enjoying life. I'll never forget the time Loyd rented the RV and we all went down South of Houston to a Rodeo to show our Yankee friends a bit of Texas.

We will always remember Loyd as the fine, principled Christian man that he was.

Our prayers and thoughts are with you and the Girls.

All our love,

Tom and Charleen Dorsett

Loyd, I remember many moons ago when we played golf together at Raveneaux and Champions. I also remember when you and I took karate together and were matched to spar as we were the biggest ones in the class. We did have some good times. I will miss you as will your Hollywood buddies at Champions and everyone else that knew you.

Barbara, I have you and your family in my prayers.
