Cecelia Johnson Obituary

Cecelia Johnson Houston artist, Cecelia Johnson, age 35, died peacefully in her home on October 27, 2014. She was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas, on March 1, 1979, and lived in the Houston area most of her life.
Cecelia was a vivacious person and dedicated artist in spite of a long and painful struggle with multiple sclerosis and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. Not only was she a prolific artist, she also constantly encouraged others to express themselves through visual art.
It has been said that life is not about how you handle the things you acquire but how you handle the things you lose. Cecelia struggled against the loss of her body strength, yet continued to produce art through many kinds of media. She once said that if her finger was her last usable body part, she would do fingerpainting.
Cecelia is survived by mother Patti DeWitt Folkerts and stepfather Ron Folkerts of Cedar Creek, Texas; father, Stephen Johnson of Hot Springs, Arkansas; brother Joel Johnson of Paris, Kentucky; brother Matthew Johnson and grandmothers Pat Cecelia Darnell and Ingrid Woodward, all of Hot Springs, as well as numerous loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Services will be held Sunday, November 16, 2014, at 1:00 PM at Camp Yorktown Bay on Lake Ouachita in Mountain Pine, Arkansas. Her family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Department of Art, Lamar University, PO Box 10027, Beaumont, Texas, 77710, to establish a scholarship fund in her name.

My beautiful girl. It's been seven years, but the pain is not any less. That I miss you goes without saying. Maybe I will be with you and Joel soon.

I knew Cecelia for a brief time while she worked with MyCityRocks. We had a very memorable shared experience with a very talented DJ (Junkie XL) one night of which photos we took together I've never seen. I think of her every time I paint as I remember how much she enjoyed it. As much as I miss her, I am happy that she is now pain free wherever she is in the universe. Her sweet heart and beautiful smile is dearly missed.

I met you at a party the same day I met my current husband. You were tall and beautiful and charming. I got to know you on facebook and admired your talent, strength, and honesty. I followed you and loved your art and photos. You were a special person, a brave person, and I will remember you.

Everyone loved CeCe! She was our MS Super Model. Such strength under extreme pressure. She had such a way of connecting with people through her personal experiences, and yes her million dollar smile. She will be truly missed, but never forgotten.

I am still in disbelief... Friend, I am so thankful and happy that our last hang out time was so wonderful, and full of laughs. I will cherish them so.
To all CeCe's family, we are still praying for your peace, calm, and healing. That He will wrap His arms around you all and pick you up. Sending continued love...

I did not know this beautiful child of God I was drawn by her million dollar smile. She is now at peace with God where there is no more pain or sickness. I will keep the family in my prayers.

Cece, your sister in pain loves you. I miss you already. I am so happy you are out of pain now. Thank you for hanging on as long as you did, I know you would have lasted longer if you could. My heart breaks that you are gone. But at least you won't be hurting anymore. JLD
