1955-2017
Gregory Stephen Murdock, DDS, 62, of Houston, Texas passed away on Friday, November 17, 2017. He is survived by his parents, Ed Murdock and Betty Murdock of Houston; his wife of 28 years, Eileen Pope, DDS; daughters Erin Murdock, Ellie Murdock, and Lainey Murdock; sister Carroll Fain and husband Steve; brother Frank Murdock and wife Ronnea; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Greg was born in Houston on July 11, 1955. He graduated from Westbury High School in 1973 and attended the University of Texas at Austin and Texas A&M University before entering the University of Texas Dental Branch in Houston, graduating in 1981. Upon graduation, he began practicing dentistry in downtown Houston and in 1988 opened his own practice that he shared with his wife until his retirement in 2015. He developed many wonderful relationships with his patients and was honored to serve them and their families throughout the years.
Friends and family were very important to Greg. Whether it was at home, on the golf course, fishing on the coast, or relaxing in the Hill Country, he cherished laughter and companionship with those he loved. He enjoyed music, singing, and writing songs and poetry. He loved bird calling in the backyard, singing as loud as he could in the living room, riding his beach cruiser around the neighborhood, watching a beautiful sunset, jogging around Memorial Park, and grilling delicious meals for his family.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2:00 p.m. at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road in Houston, Texas, 77056. Memorial contributions can made to give.specialolympics.org.

I am very sad to hear of the passing of Greg. He made me actually enjoy having a dentist appointment. Knowing he would be there and would talk always brought me a comfortable feeling. I was there twice a year for 18 years.

There are no words that express the loss of a man that was a strong presence in my life for so long. My former boss and forever friend, Greg you will be missed.

My family and I are deeply saddened to hear the news of the passing of Dr. Murdock. He will be missed. Our hearts & prayers are with you Dr. Pope & the girls during this difficult time. We have been patients of Dr. Murdock since he first opened his practice downtown. He was a great person & dentist who sincerely cared about his patients and their dental health. Heaven has gained an amazing angel. RIP Doc!

I was surprised to receive a letter about Dr. Murdoch's passing. He will be truly missed by all. I started seeing him either in the late 80's or early 90's. He had the best patient/dr. manner. He would always ask me how my family was doing and you can tell he genuinely was interested. I pray for his family during this difficult time.

So saddened to hear of Dr. Murdoch's passing. I started going to Dr. Murdoch in 1990 when I moved to Houston, and always appreciated his good humor, friendliness and excellent care. My thoughts are with his family at this difficult time, and hopeful that all their happy memories continue to give them comfort.

I worked for Dr Murdock for 10 years from 1998 to 2008. I retired after Hurricane Ike demolished my home, moving out of town. He was a great dentist to work for, always treated me kindly & put up with some of my dumb mistake when I worked the front desk. I went through 2 major surgeries & he was kind & patient when I had to miss those days to recouperate from those surgeries. He was also a great dentist & treated all of his staff with kindness & thoughtfulness. I know his family will miss him & may they all be at peace with his passing. I was deeply saddened to learn of Dr. Murdock's passing. He has been my dentist since the early 80s. After a horrible experience with a childhood dentist, I was terrified of dentists. He took me on as a patient and I TRUSTED him completely. That's the simple explanation. It was more than trust. He treated my children and even once consulted with my elderly mother, on his own dime. I pray for his family and office family during this time. I will forever miss him. Sending prayers and love! ❤
