I went to school with Dave and we shared an apartment the summer between our junior and senior year. Selling women´s shoes on commission left us little else but laughs to live on and Dave was always goods for those. Still miss him. John Newlin

My enduring condolences and sympathy to the Lachiando family. I only learned of his passing today.
Dr. Lachiando was the principal at Fairmont Jr high when I was a student there. He made a huge difference in what were a few of my darkest years.
Dr Lachiando, may you rest in eternal peace, basking in the light which shone through you in life, for you lit the way for many.

My memories of Mr. Lachiondo will sound similar to many of his other students who have already posted here. I can't remember if he was "Dr." yet back then? He was my counselor and vice principal at Boise High. I am a member of the Class of 1981. I remember him giving you his full attention whenever you spoke - making me feel like the most important person in the room. He was always so positive and encouraging. My heart broke when I saw he had passed, but then I was flooded with memories of his kindness. I pulled out my yearbook for my senior year, and found great pictures: he was Santa Claus in one, had on a polka dot shower cap in another, and smiling that broad smile at his desk in another. Boise High has a proud history of excellent staff and teachers and Mr. Lachiondo was at the top of the list. I ran into him at Bishop Kelly many years ago, and surprisingly, he remembered me and again made me feel so important. I pray for his family and friends as you start your journey of figuring out how to live your lives without his presence. Thank you for sharing him with us for all these wonderful years.

Dr. Lachiondo taught me the value of being firm, but kind. I always knew that he had high expectations for me and that he cared for me. I will never forget the power of his handshake that conveyed his caring and his anticipation that I would go forth and do the right thing. He taught me this in high school and I have attempted to carry on his concept of high expectations and kindness in the students I now teach. Thank you, Dave.

Dave was a classmate of my older brother, John DeNinno, at Bishop Kelly. I knew Dave from then as well as his work with the Basque Studies Program at Boise State where I worked in the President's Office. Dave also knew my mom Netta, when he was at Fairmont. My mom was one of the lunch ladies and she loved Dave and his wonderful sense of humor. He always had a smile on his face and was kind to everyone he met. He gave the best Basque hugs! Our paths crossed many times and I am so grateful that they did. He will be missed. My deepest sympathies to his family .

Dave was my boss at Boise High School when he was Vice Principal. Dave was a wonderful person to work with. We had some exciting times but most of the time was very rewarding and felt we both were helping kids and sending them in the right directions. He loved the kids and they loved him. It was the best and most enjoyable job I ever had and a lot of that was because of Dave. My condolences to the family.

I was in Dave's graduating class at St. Mary's and have always considered him a friend. If I had one thing to say about him, I would say that he was INFECTIOUS - in his smile, his humor, his intelligence, compassion, integrity, unbridled joy for life and his heritage. If you knew Dave, you loved and respected the guy. If you knew Dave, you and your life were better for it.

Dave was my introduction to the Basque culture. I admired his kindness, his devotion to family and his ability to always see the good, even when there wasn't much good to see. I always felt welcomed wherever Dave was. I just can't imagine Biotzetik and Boise without him. Well done good and faithful servant (Matthew 25:21).

I have known Dave and the Lachiondo family since my family arrived here from the Basque Country in the late 50’s. There were so many wonderful times that I spent with Dave and Julie in their home on Hays street. Dave was such a kind person with had the best smile that always made you feel like his friend and so welcomed.

There were many fun trips we shared being part of the Oinkari Dancers and Dave loved to share his music with all of us. We will miss seeing him at the Basque picnics and other Basque events. My husband, Dan and I will miss him and we will always remember the wonderful compassionate person that Dave was.

May Patti and family, Julie and family find comfort in all the cherished memories they have of Dave.

I think the biggest difference Dr. Lachiondo made was in the lives of his most troubled and/or troublesome students. Just knowing he cared even when we were sent to the office (not that that happened to me that often) reassured many who needed it most that he was in our corner.

I have known Dave since we were young children, through grade school at St. Joe's, and at St. Teresa's and Bishop Kelly. He was fun; he was kind; and he was always wonderful in every way. I especially remember him playing his accordion on the bus when the Oinkari's traveled to various places, and more recently when he played for the Basque choir. I never realized the accordion was such a maligned instrument until I was an adult! I always loved Dave's playing. You will be sorely missed, Dave.

My sincerest sympathy to Patti, his daughters, Julie-his sister, and all his family members.

When Dave was a young, early in his career, counselor at Boise High, he took on the challenge to be the advisor for the Key Club, a service club under the direction of a local Kiwanis club, at the high school level. With his enthusiasm to teach the students the importance of community service along with the benefits/riches for those who did the serving (students) he started with 7 members. In 4 years, the club grew to 57 and then the 5th year on to over 70. In the 4th year, with his diligence and guidance (and fun - not sure who had more fun, Dave or the students) the Boise High club reached the top, #1 club within the Southern Idaho/Northern Utah district, which had been dominated by two other clubs for over a dozen years. The opportunities that he created for the students in reaching out to the community, made life long results for many to be active in their communities well past High School. Where ever he went/worked he was a high beam of light in leading the students towards community service and it's benefits.

We will miss Dave tremendously. He was a life long friend to my wife and I (both students at Boise High-Class of 77'). He would always take a moment to check in with us and see what we were up to whenever we would be in his company.

Our love and prayers to Patty, Diana, Alicia, his sister Julie and his grandsons and other family members.

Dave and I were buddies and student government wonks at Saint Mary’s College and he was best man at my wedding. He taught me to count to 10 in Basque...and a few cuss words. If you had asked me back then what will Dave do in life, I’d have said he’ll go back to Boise, probably teach and coach, marry a great gal and have terrific kids, become principal and be a respected leader in the education and Basque communities. (And do the accordion thing.) It was always clear what Dave was passionate about. Mainly being a good and honorable man, guiding and encouraging young people and carrying on his family’s culture and traditions. We all feel a profound sense of loss, but his life was a lasting gift to many.

With out Dave's integrity, love, encouragement, and support during a very difficult time in my family. My son might not have graduated. My other sons also received his support. His love of children was very apparent and if he could help them achieve their goals, he did. Even if they didn't know it was a goal. He never gave up on any child. I am forever grateful. May eternal rest grant on to him O'Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. He is with the angels. Rest in Peace.

Dave was a class act before most of us knew what a class act was. It was my good fortune to know him for four years at St. Mary's and also visit him during business trips to Boise decades after graduation. He was the same wonderful person then as he was in the 60's. We've lost a good one and he will be greatly missed.
