Bruce Black Obituary

Bruce Allen Black 1961 - 2011 Bruce was born March 4, 1961 in Battle Mountain, Nevada the first child of Glen and Peggy Black. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at his favorite place to spend time with his family, Bogus Basin, on February 26, 2011. Bruce spent his early childhood in Battle Mountain and moved to Boise with his family in 1976. He graduated from Meridian High School in 1979. Bruce attended the University of Idaho and loved his school and loved being a "Vandal". At his work place he was very much outnumbered by Boise State Broncos but held his own against what he fondly termed supporters of the "BJC Donkeys." He had a life time love of learning and was currently attending school to ultimately earn a masters degree in accounting. Bruce met the love of his life Terri Ridge through family friends. He and Terri were married on May 30, 1987. They have two wonderful children Taylor and Morgan who Bruce dearly loved. His family was the shining star of his life. He was assistant coach for Taylor's Optimist football team (Boise Postal) for four years and was a proud member of the Knights of the Gridiron at Bishop Kelly High School where Taylor played his high school football. Bruce and Terri continued to support Taylor by never missing one of his Idaho Contact Football League games. One of Bruce's favorite pastimes with Morgan was attending her dance recitals. He was undoubtedly the proudest father in attendance. He and Morgan had a special bonding time each year by going on a "father/daughter" camping trip each summer in the beautiful Idaho mountains. He may have been the first father to get his daughter to go camping by providing television viewing with the help of a gas powered electric generator. Bruce was very active in the community and with his hobbies. He loved to ski, hunt and shoot guns of every kind, and ride his dirt bike with his son Taylor and his many dirt biking buddies. He was president twice of the Bogus Basin Condo Association and a long time board member. Also, he was very active in his gun club IAWCA and was a past vice president and board member. Bruce spent the last 25 years helping his family build their Idaho family business, AmeriTel Inns. At the time of his death he was the company's president. To know Bruce was to know someone with a heart of gold. He never turned away a person in need and anonymously helped untold people and families in the valley over the years. He will be greatly missed by his family, his many friends, and co-workers. He was preceded in death by his mother Peggy. He is survived by his wife of nearly 24 years Terri; his two children: Taylor and Morgan; his father Glen and siblings: Annette Charles (Brad), Brian (Nichol) and numerous nieces and nephews. "To my Dad, I miss you so much, I know that grandma Peggy is taking care of her boy now. This is only goodbye for now; I know I'll see you again. I love you so much and I'm so lucky you took such good care of us all. Every time I look in the mirror I see you, every time I see my big brother Taylor I see you. Papa told me something wise yesterday, "I know it's hard but that means there is so much love." I promise to always make you proud even when you're not around. I love you daddy, I always will, nothing will ever change that. I'm daddy's little girl, I love you so much more than words can express. Goodbye daddy, I'll miss you so much." Morgan Black Funeral Mass will be celebrated for Bruce at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 5th at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, corner of Chinden and Meridian Roads. There will be a reception to follow at the AmeriTel Inn - Boise Spectrum. Services are under the direction of Accent Funeral Home, Meridian. Condolences may be left for the family online at www.AccentFuneral.com. In lieu of flowers you can make contributions in Bruce's name to the Bishop Kelly Foundation, 7009 Franklin Road, Boise, ID 83709 or a charity of your choice.

Terri, Taylor & Morgan: We just learned of Bruce's death today, April 3 and are so saddened and shocked to her the news. We are so fortunate that we were able to reconnect with our old friends while sharing stories and walks in the mall each day of the week. God knew what he was doing when he got us reconnected. We enjoyed Bruce so much and will always remember all of those crazy things he did over the past 25 years. He loved you all so very much and that was so evident in the way he would light up when any of you were mentioned. One day we were talking to Bruce while he was waiting for Terri to get to the mall for their walk and he said to us, "You know....Terri is the best thing that ever happened to me! And I wouldn't change a thing." Our hearts ache for you and know that you are in our thoughts and prayers and we are here when you need us. God Bless you all! Our love, Val, Kristi, Jordan & Emilee Rivers

Morgan, Taylor, and Terri: Our thoughts and condolences go out to you during this trying time. Bruce was a good friend, a wonderful supporter of education and athletics, and a superb husband and father. I will always remember talking football with him at one of Taylor's BK games. He made award-winning chili; in fact, he helped support Middleton HS after their devastating fire a few years ago by participating in their chili cook-off fundraiser - a great example of how he quietly assisted others. May God be with you as we try to understand why such a tremendous family man was called home so early. Our thoughts and prayers continue. I stand ready to assist in any way I can, Terri. GO KNIGHTS! To the Black Family, My thoughts and prayers are with you. I learned of Bruce's death Tues, 3/8~ I sat next to him in Class at CWI. He was quiet. I just want to say thank you for writing an awesome obituary to give me some insight to how wonderful Bruce, this quiet man, was and all he accomplished. It is so inspiring to know all he accomplished and he still was attending college to work on a Master's. I wish the Black family all the best and my prayers are with you.

Bruce was enrolled in the Chemistry In Everyday Life class that I teach at College of Western Idaho. I was concerned when he didn't attend class last week, but I was shocked and saddened to hear of his passing. In the short time that I knew him, I was impressed by his work ethic, his grasp of the material and his willingness to help his fellow students in the lab. I am sorry that I will miss any further opportunity to know him better. My sincere condolences to his family.

I am a high school friend of Terri's. I only met Bruce one time. I felt like I got to know him a little through Terri talking about her best friend and husband of 23 years. My husband and I were also blessed to have known Bruce's mom Peggy. She was a great blessing in our lives, when we were experiencing loss. From what I knew of Bruce he had a big, wonderful heart like his mom. Terri, Taylor and Morgan our family send our prayers and many hugs your way.

I will always remember the great times I had skiing at Bogus with Bruce during our high-school years. I will also remember the help his family gave me during that time. It is something I will not forget.

To the entire Black family, you have my deepest sympathies.

I knew most of the Black family through my association with Ameritel Inns, but unfortunately never had the opportunity to meet Bruce. The fine comments I have heard since his passing tells me he was an outstanding person and a wonderful husband, father and brother.

May time lessen the grief you are all experiencing right now, and may the memories of his life be everlasting.

Our thoughts and prayers and most sincere condolences to his wife and children, his father Glen, his sister Annette, and brother Brian.

Sincerely,

Scott and Michelle Guthormsen (Thousand Oaks, CA)

Dear Black Family,
We had the Honor of knowing Bruce thru Riding dirt Bikes. Our girls loved him, as he always insisted riding Cleanup...So they were helped by him on more than one occasion.
Our Daughter Salise, especally took to Bruce. He held a very special place in her heart, and her eyes would light up when she knew Bruce was riding with us.
He will be greatly missed. He was a "GIANT OF A MAN".
May Gods comfort and peace be with You at this time.
