Dear Bruce & Family:

It was with sadness that we read of John’s death in the New York Times. We were visiting a friend who is a subscriber of the NY Times. We met John and his family on a tip to South-east Asia more than fifteen years ago. We immediately bonded. The night prior to docking in Hong Kong John gave us his alarm clock and said that he would meet us on a specific deck and a specified time. He insisted that we had to experience coming into Hong Kong Harbor. It was a sight that we shared and remember to this day.

John came to visit many times in Miami. He had just met Bruce and was excited. We met Skipper and loved him. We shared pizza, wine and friends. We persuaded John to go to the Everglades and record its beauty with his brush. We had many things in common. A Federal grant working with women who were HIV infected and incarcerated, He, the GMHCN and the hot line. We talked long and often sharing new and promising information as well as personal achievements.

We visited John and Bruce on our trips to NYC. It was always good to see them. Our last visit was December 2005. John suggested that we meet for lunch at the Spice Market. That lunch was one of the highlights of our trip.

We will always remember John and what a special and loving man he was. He will remain in our heart and mind.

Love and safe journey to John, our friend.

It was obvious even as a child, that John was a very gifted artist.

I hold such fond memories of our childhood, with little freckle-faced Johnny always smiling and up for making mischief. What fun we all had.
