Here it is another year has passed. You continue to be missed and loved. The whole family is now within 5 miles of each other. So there are family gatherings and your niece and nephew are now 14 & 8. Amazing how life continues and sooooo much has happened. Wish you were still here to share in the joy of watching the family expand. You left us way to early..........we miss you and love you.

13 years have passed... miss you. The world is a crazy place now. A horrible virus covid-19 is spreading world wide and it's so sad. We'll meet again some day, and we'll talk for hours. Just like we did late at night years ago. Will always love you and hold you close to my heart....

Your niece, Natalia is 12 yrs old now and beautiful. They had a second child, Evan and he is 6 yrs old. Wish you could be here with all of us so much life and love to share. Love you and miss you......my heart still aches.

Dearest Family & Friends, it is hard to believe that one year ago today was the memorial service for Steve. So many people attended it filled our hearts with warmth and love. John and I would like to thank all of you for your support and love throughout this painfull past year.
A special thank you to our "son & daughter" Patrick and Ada. Your love, support and arrangement of the service was just beautiful and a lasting memory for us. We'd also like to thank, Marek for all his help and continued support. He is indeed considered a member of this family.
A memorial niche has been purchased at Holy Sepulchre Cemetary, on Mission Blvd., in Hayward. Hopefully it will be completed for viewing by April 28th, which is when Steven's ashes were spread in the Sierra's. We think of Steve everyday and know many of you do too. We miss him, we love him and remember his bright smiling face.........that little smirk and twinkle in his eye. He will always be with us in our hearts and minds.
Thank you, Sue & John Berget

Hello once again family and friends. This holiday season brings so many memories of our fun-loving Steve. Remember him well and look up to the heavens and wave hello to the brightest shining star! For that will be him.
Please know that you are still welcome to drop by the house for a warm cheerful hug, some chocolate brownies or cupcakes and an ice cold Coke. The outside may not be decorated because our electronic tech isn't here with his flair for lights and Santas but we do have a tree and a few decorations for the season. Happy and healthy holiday wishes to all and your loved ones. Warm fuzzy hugs and much love, Sue Berget

Steven....Steven....was an inspiration to many of us who knew him and loved him.
His personality represented the perfect harmony of charm, wit, intelligience, love, and compassion.
He is loved, adored, and respected by all of us who had the honor of knowing him. Those who hadn't met him missed out on something special.
He Left his mark on this world....KNOW THAT!
Dear Steven....your heart was golden, your charm unmatched, and your soul beautiful.Your spirit has risen and the Lord has you amongst the angels. May your memory be eternal. Heaven is indeed blessed to have you. We hope they were ready for you!!

This is one of the few times when I wish I would have never moved out of California.
Most all of my good memories of being in San Leandro include Steve. From studying together for HS Chem, being in the "power corner" in calculus, playing cards and video games in his back room, to firing the spud gun off in nameless places. On my yearly trips back to Cali, I could always count on Steve being there to re-live old times.
I remember once that he told me he was going to be a comedian, and I don't doubt he could have succeeded. He was one of the funniest guys I've ever met. More notably however, he was by far the smartest man I've ever met. I remember on my last visit over Thanksgiving, he went over the chemical reaction that was taking place during the combustion process of firing our spud gun, and I'm sure he hadn't taken Chemistry in over 4 years.
I considered Steve to be one of my closest friends. I would have done anything for that man, and I only wish that I could have had more time with him.

man, this was hard for me to even read.
Adam Gobble, Steve and myself were all in the elementary school band at McKinley.
When I read about this, i was deeply saddened. To Sue and the rest of the family, im so sorry this even happened, you had one heck of a son, and one heck of a high school classmate.

I remember Steve all the way back from middle school through our graduation from SLHS. Not only did I go to school with him but, we also did Aikido together. Steve was a person who had a lot of energy, was a lot of fun to hang out with, and will be missed.

I've known Steven since we were in, what was it, kindergarten? 1st grade? There was a point in time when I was convinced he was the funniest guy in the world. As far as intelligence goes, to this day I'm not sure if I've met anyone more brilliant than him. He will be missed.

Steve was a great nephew, and i am going to miss him very much. Holiday get togethers were especially fun to spend with him. We will never have another Christmas Eve Santa like Steve. He was always clowning,in a good mood, and would put up with us asking him to wear a Santa hat every year, to pass out the gifts. Steve was the nicest, and funniest guy you would ever want to be related to. Life will never be the same for us who knew him.

Steve was always one to stand out at the hockey rink on Friday nights whether that be as an opponent, teammate, or just being one of the guys hanging out after the game. He will be remembered for all the things nice guys are remembered for, but in addition there are the amusing names he would place on his jersey, the quick and apropos quotes from South Park, and assorted locker room antics that made hockey on Friday night special for many of us.

I went to the Junior Prom with Steven and we had a great time. I didn't keep in contact with him much after college (or with many other people, which I do regret), but I wanted to offer my sympathies. I wish that I could make it to his memorial service but I will be moving back to the bay area the following weekend. Steven was a very smart, refreshing person to be around and he will be missed.
