Donald Seymour Obituary

Donald James Seymour Sr. of National City passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, May 29, 2015 at the Iosco County Medical Care Facility, age 100 years.
He was born on Feb. 18, 1915 in Bundy Township, Michigan to Floyd and Mary Alice (Williams) Seymour. Don was a local entrepreneur in the Tawas area community. In the early 1960s, he began his business of installing various types of floor coverings. Then in 1970 he decided to further his business and enter into the retail market. He purchased his building which still exists today, and officially opened Seymour Carpet and Furniture.
His business has seen many changes and has progressed in ways that made him proud. He stepped away from the business in 1977 so that he could enjoy his retirement years to the fullest. Don was very active in the Tawas community and truly enjoyed golfing with his friends, playing cards, dancing and singing, and his pancake breakfasts.
One of the biggest parts of his life was his family's hunting camp and all the work, play, hunting, stories and memories that are made with family and friends while spending time there. Don was also a long time member of the Tawas Elks. He will be forever remembered by so many that had the privilege to know him.
Don is survived by his three loving children, Joycelyn (Ken) Krumm of Sand Lake, Donna (Dewayne) Durant of Burton and Don Seymour Jr. of East Tawas; his very special friend, Marie Moorcraft of New Brunswick, Canada; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; one sister, Alice Marie Robbins of Colorado; one sister-in-law, Charleen (Fred) Payne of Florida/Colorado; many many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Don was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Grace Seymour in September of 2008; his infant son, Donald Henry Seymour; two brothers; and 11 sisters.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Buresh Funeral Home in Tawas City. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, June 3 at 11 a.m. at Tawas United Methodist Church with Reverend Dan Gonder officiating. His family will welcome friends at church from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service. Cremation will follow the service. The whole staff at the Iosco County Medical Care Facility took such loving of Don during his final days and it meant more than words can say to his entire family! Those wishing to make a memorial contribution in his name are asked to donate to the charity of your choice. An online guest registry is available at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.
