I mostly knew Vernard from his writings, which in my colleges years inspired and shaped my own expressions of Christian Faith. Vernard's passing, while certainly a sad and painful experience, is not tragic, for his legacy lives on in printed words, and in people transformed by those printed words. I pray the family find comfort in this season, as Vernard finds rest in the presence of our Lord

I became acquainted with Vernard at a lecture that he gave at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary, where he presented some of the material from a new work, "Could the Church Have it All Wrong?". That work was never published in print, but he once wrote that he regarded it as his most important effort.

When I started a Christian web site that featured "The Vernard Eller Collection" in 1995, Vernard was very helpful in obtaining the permissions necessary to make much of his life's work available to me so that I could put it online at no cost, and many thousands have accessed that material. To this day I receive many e-mails of appreciation from people who have been blessed by his writings.

My deepest condolences go to Phyllis, Sander, and all the other members of his family.
