REYMUNDO VALENZUELA Obituary

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the loss of our beloved father, husband, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Reymundo "Ray" Valenzuela, 82, of El Centro, CA. He was born on January 31, 1941, in Marfa, Texas, and passed away peacefully on February 22, 2023.
Ray married Josefina F. Valenzuela on April 28, 1962, at St. Mary's Church, El Centro, CA.
As a young man, Ray worked in agriculture with his family. He then worked at Shelton's wrecking yard and then as a manager at an equipment rental service. In the late 60's, he went to work for the City of El Centro as Superintendent of Public Works, where he later retired in 1984. His first passion was being with family and taking them on long, extended vacations. Then, cooking for all occasions for family and friends, making the best "barbacoa" of Imperial Valley. He was a member of the Lion's Club as the president of the club. And his favorite word was "JOSIE!!"
He was preceded in death by his father, Juan Valenzuela; his mother, Guadalupe Garcia Valenzuela; his son, Ray Valenzuela; his sister, Lilia; his brother, Jesse Valenzuela.
Ray is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Josie F. Valenzuela; daughters, Becky (Mike) Wickline of El Centro, CA, and Rachel (Ken) Yasunaga of Fresno, CA; grandchildren, Priscilla Wickline of El Centro, CA, Alyssa Valenzuela (Fiance, Hunter Toten) of Holtville, CA, Michael Ray (Raven) Wickline of Imperial, CA, Nickalus Yasunaga of Fresno, CA, and Kiyomi Rae Yasunaga of Fresno, CA; great-grandchildren; Brytni Rae Valenzuela and Bryce Gauge Waegner of Holtville, CA; brother, John; sister's, Annie, Martha, Mary, Nancy, and Virgie; daughter-in-law, Debbie Valenzuela; and many other aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
A Rosary will be held on March 16, 2023, from 6-9 p.m. at St. Mary's Church, El Centro, CA. Services will be officiated by Father Mark Edney on March 17, 2023, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, El Centro, CA, followed by the Burial at Evergreen Cemetery.

So much sadness in reading of the passing of my coworker Ray. Working in the Public Works Dept with Ray always felt like family. Ray always was the first to lend a helping hand; He loved to BBQ for the Employees' city functions. He was a caring man and passionate of his role in being Superintendent. Josie and Ray were a fabulous couple and loved their kids passionately. You will be missed. Our sympathy to his family.

My heart aches for you all. Your Dad was and will always be larger than life. His smile, generosity and loving and tender heart will be ingrained in all of our memories. Some of my fondest childhood memories were spent with your Dad and your family.
