Nelma Lamie Obituary

Nelma Keith Lamie

Lafayette - Nelma Keith Lamie went to join her group of angels in the Heavens on Monday, February 15, 2021, at Mulberry Health & Rehabilitation Center in Mulberry.

She was born in Rensselaer on June 1, 1930 to John and Sarah Sadie Keith. She met the love of her life, John Lamie, upon his return from WWII, and they were married in 1950. Their children are LuAnn Lamie, William Lamie and his wife Sue, Philip Lamie and his wife Valerie Eickmeier, and Janet Myers and her husband Chris. Her grandchildren are Kate Merritt (Christian), Grant Lamie (Courtney Rude), Forrest and Jodi Lamie, and Megan and Emma Myers.

Along with her husband John and her parents, Nel was preceded in death by her sister Lucy Cripe and her brother Marvin Keith.

Nel graduated from Fowler High School in 1948 and went directly into the workforce as a receptionist and legal secretary for several Benton County businesses including L.I. Freeland Insurance and Hawkins & Rayle Law Firm. She also worked as an accountant for Paul Pittman, and Glotzbach & Gunther CPA's. She was very dedicated to her clients, the farmers and workforce of Fowler and Benton County.

Nel was a dedicated and involved mother to her four children. She promoted and encouraged their individual interests, creativity, and career pursuits. There was always a lot of art being created in her home, and there were many happy times and stories shared in the Lamie household. Nel also nurtured the neighborhood children, and she delighted in time spent with her grandchildren. She recently met her new great-granddaughter, Alexandra Lamie, in person, and got to see her great grandson, Will Merritt, through Zoom visits! She was a skilled seamstress, crochet craftsman, and avid birder and nature lover and her gardens were bountiful and glorious. Nel also valued and cherished her friendships, many of which blossomed into lifelong bonds. She was a member of Omicron Chapter of Tri Kappa. Nel loved and celebrated a life well lived as a sweet, kind, thoughtful and positive woman.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at a later time. (There will be a private family service.) Share memories, leave condolences, and sign the guest book at www.soller-baker.com

Dear LuAnn, I was sure that was your mom as soon as I saw her. She was always pretty & your dad was a handsome man. I remember going into the elevator with Dad to see John. I'm very sorry for your loss, she is back with her love. Sending prayers for peace and understanding.
