Michael Sullivan Obituary

Sullivan, Michael T. Honorable "There is not an angel added to the Host of Heaven but does his blessed work on earth in those that loved it here." -Charles Dickens The Honorable Michael T. Sullivan did his blessed work on earth. He served the public for 41 years as a fair, brilliant and hard working judge. Surviving Judge Sullivan is his son Atty. Michael T. Sullivan, Jr., his beloved brother Gerald (Mary) Sullivan and his sisters Mary Ann Swieciak and Joan "Mikey" Schramm. In heaven, the Judge is with his wife Jeanne. Judge Sullivan earned his J.D from Marquette University and an L.L.M. in taxation from John Marshall Law School. In a nationally reported case, Judge Sullivan recognized a dying person's right to make decisions and that human dignity required that those decisions be enforced. Judge Michael T. Sullivan was a leader in the civil rights movement. He took an oath to administer justice without respect to persons and he was true to that oath. As Chief Judge, he directed the establishment of a number of programs such as victim /witness support, the domestic violence unit and the sensitive crimes unit. For twelve years he was an Appellate Court Judge. Many of his decisions are law today and are examples of excellence in legal writing. This Judge set standards. As a blood donor, Michael donated 257 pints of blood. He saved many lives. Michael loved to spend time with family and friends. He enjoyed checkers, sheepshead, swimming, fishing, and snowmobiling. Later in this life, Michael was successful in the stock market. At all times he enjoyed the antics of his dog, Tiger. Michael,

Please accept our deepest sympathies upon your father's passing. He was a lovely man and a joy to be with. We always enjoyed being in the company of Michael and Jeanne.

I remember a time, in 1962, I sat at the back of Michael's courtroom as a highschool student and friend to listen to the proceedings. At the lunch break, he stood up and called me into his chambers and took me to lunch at a wonderful, old, German restaurant. It was the thrill of my life.

In case you don't remember, Jeanne was my Godmother and a wonderful friend. I visited her frequently before she married Michael and was living half a block from my school. After her marriage, I visited them at their home for lunch, alone, or with my husband in the evenings.

Your Mom and Dad attended my wedding when she was expecting you. I was very happy that they could attend.

I will always remember both your Dad and Mom with love. I am very sad for your losses.

A true intellect. He was a fair, honest and thoughtful judge. When I succeeded him as Chief Judge, everything was in order and up to date He was a role model for other judges and lawyers. Our thoughts and prayers are for the family. We are still in Arizona and unable to attend the services. Victor Manian

Mike, I'm sorry to hear of your father's passing. I lost my father 7 years ago and have allowed my memories of him calm my spirit and bring peace to my soul. I hope you find that same sense of peace.
