Allan Sullivan Obituary

Sullivan, Allan R. "Sully," was born July 30, 1946 in Miami, OK. He was the only child of Guy and Jean Millsap Sullivan. He received his Last Commanders Call August 7, 2014, from Agent Orange related illnesses, including Lung Cancer. Sully was united in Marriage with Linda Coons on April 14, 1973 in Sedalia, Missouri. Surviving is his wife, Linda of the home; his Red Patch family; a cousin, Jim Sullivan of Kansas City, KS; and extended family members of the Springfield and Mt. Vernon, MO area. He attended school in Mt Vernon, Missouri, graduating in 1964. He obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from Wichita State University. Sully was a lifelong worshiper in the Presbyterian faith with affiliation at his home town church in Mt. Vernon, Mo. Sully was a proud military veteran following thirteen years of service in the United States Air Force. He served in Vietnam. He served in the Philippines with an elite Intelligence and Reconnaissance group called the Red Patch. The bonds formed with his fellow Red Patch Brothers continue today. Following Military service, Sully worked for the Wichita Public Schools Security department, retiring in 2004 from South High School. Sully was active in many Veterans organizations including the Haysville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6957, 40 & 8 Voiture #58, American Legion, Vietnam Veterans Association, and Vietnam Security Police Association. His commitment to meeting the needs of fellow veterans was ever present. Memorials in Sully's name can be made to the Voiture #58 Nurses Scholarship Program, VFW Children's Home, the South High JROTC program, or an organization of your choice. Mrs. Sullivan, I am so sorry for your loss. My husband, Ed Dawson, or Butch as many knew him, was friends with Sully for many years. Graduated from Mt. Vernon, together, and remained in contact through email.Ed always spoke very highly of him, and treasured their friendship. I sympathize with you at this difficult time. I pray you will find comfort in the legacy Sully has left. Ed passed away in February, and I testify to the strength and peace that our Lord provides.

And Now We Say Goodbye

Great sadness fills our hearts today
as pipes and drums, in slow march play.
A comrade's fallen by the way,
And now we say goodbye.

This hero to the very end
Was more than just a casual friend,
Who would a stranger's life defend,
And now we say goodbye

But we shall cherish, all our days,
The character this life portrayed
With sacrifice so freely made,
And now we say goodbye.

The hand salute, o'er Stars and Stripes,
And distant skirl of highland pipes,
Give last farewell with hero's rights,
And now we say goodbye.

While here on Earth, you gave your best.
Now in the Master's arms you rest.
T'is by your memory we are blessed.
And now we say goodbye.

I did not know Allan "sully" personally. I was a long term sub at South High School in the late 90's. His reputation was good with the students then. I remember hearing the students talking one day saying " man that big guy is fast, you would not think he would be, but man, you gotta be fast to get away!" . LOL...I am sure he impacted many lives in many positive ways! My thoughts and prayer are with your family <3

Dearest Sully, you were my partner for almost 15 years at South High School...and I hold many special memories of you. We worked well together through those years, and we shared many adventures. I will never forget the many things you did for me personally, during a time that I was raising my children, as a single parent. Your kindness and friendship helped me through many down times in my life. You and Linda took me, and my children under your wings. You looked out for us, and I will never forget your humanity. I am proud to call you my friend. You and Linda stepped forward many times, to help me when I needed help in my life. Your compassion exceeded anyone's expectations. I feel Blessed to have seen and shared your human side, that most people neglected to see. I will miss you my friend..you deserve to spread your wings and fly, you earned them. Much love being sent to you in Heaven...you will not be forgotten....we will meet again my friend.
