GINO TUTERA Obituary

Dr. Gino Tutera, 70, passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2015. A Celebration of Life to honor him will be on Tuesday, December 1st at the Carriage Club, 5301 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO 64112 in The Ballroom from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A blessing will be said at 6:30 PM. Family has requested in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Rockhurst High School, 9301 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO 64114 in memory of Dr. Gino Tutera. Gino was born on September 28, 1945 in Rome Italy and grew up in the Northeast section of Kansas City among three generations of loving relatives and friends. He received a Jesuit education at Rockhurst High School and attended the University of Missouri at Columbia where he received his medical degree in 1971. He also held positions as medical Director of OB/GYN at Baptist Medical Center where he practiced and delivered thousands of babies. Gino Tutera was a pioneer and visionary in the field of bio- identical hormone replacement therapy for men and women. His hormone replacement therapy, SottoPelle, founded in 2002, helps people age gracefully. Aside from his pioneering efforts, he founded his self- made practices in Missouri, California and Arizona for over 40 years. Business and career were very important to Gino but what were of paramount importance were his wife, family, and friends. He was a devoted husband, loving father and caring doctor. His passions in life were his family members and his two Chihuahuas - Sukie and Tatiana and his patients. He also had equal passion for travel when accompanied by his wife and children. Whether it was delivering babies or treating hormone patients, he was always focused on making the life of his patients better and happier. He changed the lives of so many patients. Gino was a man with a vision to help his patients regain their healthy lifestyles. He was a truly dedicated doctor with a tender soul with a big heart, always putting everyone's needs before his. He gave so much of his heart to others that when it came time for him to have it, there was nothing left. Gino will always be remembered as a true gentleman and a strong man of character to his wife and family. Gino's attitude, sense of humor, loving heart, and caring spirit will always be missed by those who knew him. Gino was preceded in death by his father Frank, mother Elena, sister Gina Tutera Lanham. He is survived by his wife CarolAnn, his daughter Ashley, son Dominic, his wife Allison and two grandchildren, Henry and Josephine, stepson Adam Stempel, wife Blanca, mother-in-law Shirley Pener, brother Frank, sister Caroline, brother Joe, his wife Karen, sister Maria and husband Frank Alessio, brother-in- law Steven Lanham, sisters-in- law and brothers-in-law, Julie and Chad Ullman, Marsha Johnston, and Barry and Francine Pener along with various nieces and nephews. I was reflecting on my Son's birth 30 years ago at Eisenhower Hospital in Rancho Mirage, CA. I was saddened to read that he was no longer with us. He was such a gracious and patient doctor with a delightful sense of humor. I remember hearing him pull up on his Harley while I was in the waiting room and would say to myself "Yay! he's here!" Thank you, Dr. Tutera, for helping me bring my Son into this world. I'll never forget you.

I was just reminiscing with my Son about his birth & delivery by Dr. Tutera 44 years ago when I found his obit. What a sweet man he was & how we all laughed after he told me that I had a Son, I replied, " It's a boy, it's a boy, oh thank you Dr. Tutera which he replied, "I had nothing to do with it". I haven't found a Dr. like him since!! Rest In Peace Gino

I just learned of Dr. Tutera's passing. Dr. Tutera delivered my son 40 years ago in February. I was a young and single but he did not pass judgement and only provided the best care for me during my pregnancy. I remember sitting in his office and he walked in to see me, I was getting very close to delivery and very scared. He said "it will be ok little mama". My mother was an RN in OP, KS and worked in labor and delivery so I was very fortunate to have been put in his care. While reading his obituary I thought "it is not surprising to see all of those accomplishments". May he rest in peace.

I just learned of Dr. Tutera´s passing and my heart is broken. He was the kindest and most caring doctor ever! He diagnosed my endometriosis and worked with me for several years to enable for me to conceive. I will never forget when I finally got pregnant, he was so happy that he cried! He delivered my daughter in 1984 and I was able conceive again! My youngest son was born in 1987 in New Jersey so unfortunately Dr. Tutera never knew that.
Dear Dr. Tutera - you will always live in my heart. RIP

I was contemplating my son's upcoming 28th Birthday, and began to wonder if Gino had ever managed to retire. I was so saddened to see that he had passed. My mother was one of his nurses at Hickman Mills Clinic in Grandview, MO. He was so kind to me as an 18 yr old girl with cervical cancer. I have always been grateful for his treatment, compassion, and honesty. When all was said and done, it was unknown whether I would ever have children, and I never had the opportunity to let him know that I had a healthy son several years later. I pray that God has given his family peace in the last years knowing what an impact he made on this earth, and thank you for sharing him with us.

I just came across Dr. Gino Tuteras obituary this morning. My heart is broken at the loss of this great man and Doctor. I was blessed when Gino took over my Doctors practice in Rancho Mirage, CA. I had an early aged hysterectomy due to complications. Dr. Tutera started the hormone replacement therapy which changed my life. He was my daughters Gyn as well. Ive never found a doctor before or after Dr. Tutera that has the qualities he had. He was the kind of person that made you feel safe and comfortable in whats most termed as a clinical setting. He will be missed by his many patients and friends. RIP Gino!

I just found out that Dr Tutera has passed. Although it's been a couple of years, it's crushing to me to have found this information. Dr Tutera was my first OB/GYN. I'll never forget our first appointment, I immediately fell in love with his kind and gentle spirit, he was such a wonderful man and gifted doctor. He took such good care of me during my pregnancy and after. He delievered our son in 1978, and each year on July 29th I remember what Dr Tutera did to save my life 40 years ago. He truly was a savior that day and gave me life and a beautiful baby boy. I will always have a special place in my heart for him. I will keep his family and friends tucked tightly in my prayers. God Bless.

I just found out from my friend in Kansas City that Dr. Tutera passed. I'm saddened for the loss of such an extraordinary doctor and man. My girlfriend in Kansas City introduced me to the hormone replacement therapy in Arizona. Without that hormone therapy I would not be the woman I am today. I can only hope that one of the children or colleagues can continue the research that Dr. Tutera has completed over the years. He will be missed. Sometimes we don't know why things happen. All we can do is hold on to the memories, love and each other. May God give his family some peace during these grieving times. My Sympathy.

Dr. Tutera was an exceptional GYN. He was always available to talk to you and I did not feel like I was just a number. I started with him at the Plaza office. As he kept moving further south, I kidded him that I should get a discount, since I lived in Kansas City, KS. At one point, he even had my 2 bosses as patients. He said if I came to California he would buy us dinner! His personality, sense of humor and expertise will never be forgotten. I first knew him in 1973-1993. We lived in Oxnard, California, from 1981-1986. When we came back to KC, in 1986, I continued with Rockhill Women's Care and saw Dr. Barnhouse. My thoughts and prayers to the family. I am truly saddened to read of Dr Tutera's passing. In my book, he was a medical pioneer as he touched our everyday life with his direction and support through hormonal therapy as well as, ensuring the health and safety of a very difficult delivery. As a KC patient, I found that he was kind, caring and a great listener who genuinely cared. We ask the family to please accept our heartfelt sympathy during this time of sorrow.

CarolAnn, Tutera, and Pener families my sincere condolence to each of you. My dear husband (Marvin Altman) and I have been friends for many years with your families, and grown to love each of you. Dr. Tutera was a truly kind man, great husband, father and so much more. I send you all my love and peaceful thoughts as you grieve. He is in God's presence now and God will give you comfort now. I think of my dear husband each and every day with so many wonderful memories, and don't miss an opportunity daily to tell him how much I love him! He went to be with God on October 5th., 2014. Love, Norma Altman and the Altman family.

I am saddened to hear of Dr. Tutera's passing today. I will always be eternally grateful to this wonderful doctor as he was able to determine my infertility issues with kindness and compassion. Despite the hundreds of babies he delivered, he delivered my three as though they were his first. That was the kind of doctor he was. He never forgot his patients even years later. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and medical family. You have lost a cherished and dear man and wonderful doctor.

Just learned of Gino's passing and I'm so very sorry! I was so blessed to have him as my Dr while he was here in Kansas City. I will always be forever grateful for his tender care and guidance when I was suffering with severe hormonal imbalance. His guidance over 30 years ago put me on a path for a healthy and happy life I'm convinced I would not have had otherwise. As a result of getting balanced, he also helped me and my husband bring two beautiful daughters into the world. Peace be with him and his entire family. We will keep all of you in our prayers.

My friend, my mentor. As I sit today in your Scottsdale office giving your lecture and training physicians as you were scheduled to do, I don't find you absent but with me in giving your talk and teaching your vision which came true for thousands of men and women across the globe. Your office chair was empty, and I stand where you stood when you first taught me. Though you are not here your legend will continue as far as I can go. Thank you for what you left, thank you for your friendship. You will remain in all of the hearts you have touched.
