JACK EXLINE SIGLER

1926 - 2016

Jack Exline Sigler, 90, of Blue Springs, Mo., passed away December 29, 2016, after a brief illness. The only child of Kessler "Tip" and Gladys "Sussie" (Exline) Sigler was born on Feb. 26, 1926, in Kansas City, Mo. Jack was united in marriage to Norma Jean High on April 1, 1950, in Kansas City. He was a WWII Army veteran having received an honorable discharge from Army Company A 51st signal operation BN in 1946. He graduated from Blue Springs High School 1943, B.A. from U of KC 1949, M.A. from U of KC 1961. Jack enjoyed fishing, and had a talent for creative art work. He spent his working career in sociological research and retired from UCM as Assistant to the Dean of the Graduate School. Having suffered a stroke in 1993, he became active in encouraging other stroke survivors. He was a member of the Stroke Support Group at St. Mary's Hospital. For many years he was Treasurer of Midwest Sociological Society. He was a longtime active member of the First United Methodist Church in Blue Springs. Survivors include wife, Norma Jean Sigler of the home; son, Karl Sigler (Jean C. Markey) of Oak Grove, Mo.; daughter, Sara Swartz (Gary) of Independence, Mo.; his grandchildren, Justin Swartz (Nicole) of Blue Springs, Nicholas Swartz (Laura) of Greenwood, Mo., Breanne Sigler Gordon (Randy) of Shawnee, Okla., Shayla Sigler of Ft. Worth, Texas; and great-grandchildren, Hope Swartz, Seth Swartz, and Matilda Swartz. He is preceded in death by his parents. Celebration of Life for Jack will be 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2, at the First United Methodist Church, 301 SW Woods Chapel Rd, Blue Springs.
