George Foltz Obituary

FOLTZ, GEORGE RUSSELL - 65, of Knoxville, died Thursday, June 3, 2010. He was born June 22, 1944 in Oak Ridge, the son, of Russell Vernon and Dorothy Louise Foltz. Bud, as he was commonly known, grew up in Oak Ridge and graduated from Oak Ridge High School in 1962. After high school he attended Tennessee Tech University but interrupted his studies to join the US Marine Corp. As a marine, he valiantly served his country. After being wounded, he returned stateside and was honorably discharged. After recovering from his wounds, Bud worked a variety of interesting civilian jobs ranging from taking care of snakes in the Memphis Zoo to being an inside salesman from Tennessee Mill and Mine Supply. Beginning in 1980, Bud went to work for ORAU where he worked, 18 years as a health physics technician. In 1998, he went to work for BWXT and the Y-12 facility until his retirement in 2009. Bud and his wife, Linda enjoyed traveling and meeting new people. He thoroughly enjoyed his hobbies and had a natural curiosity that ranged from collecting fossils to visiting magic shows. Bud possessed a very scientifically inquisitive mind and was a self ascribed naturalist. He was a good man who loved his family and deeply cared about other people. In return, Bud was loved and respected by family, and a multitude of friends. In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by sister, Jollie Allegretti; and nephew, Brett Petrovich. He is survived by his wife, of 30 years, Linda Haun Foltz, of Knoxvilles sister, Dee Ballentine, of Memphis; niece, Dana Hutson; nephews, Scott Massie and Russ Petrovich; step-sons, Michael and Allen Partin; 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 from 6 - 8 pm at Weatherford Mortuary. A Memorial Service will follow at 8:00 pm. The family asks that any memorials be in the form of contributions to Covenant Home Care and Hospice. An on-line guest book can be signed at www.weatherfordmortuary.com.

Having worked with George during his tenure at ORAU, I learned what an interesting man he was. He could lighten any situation with his laughter and his diverse knowledge whether it be about shells, magic, or snakes. The world will be less bright without him. My prayers are with you, Linda, during this difficult time.

George was a wonderful person. He was a great entertainer. I loved his magic. It brought a smile to everyone he shared it with. I know he loved doing it to. He was a great friend. He was always so positive and supportive. I enjoyed working with him and learning about his family. He will definetely be missed by many. May God be with his family during this time and may you know that George's friends at Y-12 will surely keep you in their prayers. May you find the strength to continue on and may his memory never fade. God Bless You!

How we will miss our precious friend "Magic George". He was a wonderful friend! Just a wonderful man! Always optimistic... just such a joy to know! We had lots of fun times working together at Y-12. I always loved hearing him talk about all of the things that he found interesting! I always found them interesting too! I could always learn something new from George! He use to invite our family to the magicians convention in Gatlinburg every year. That was always fun for us and our kids. He helped me come up with some magic tricks for a talent show for my boys when they were little. We still talk about how great it turned out! His friendship was such a blessing! I am so grateful that we got to laugh with him recently over a margarita. It was nice to see him laughing! I know that he loved his wife Linda so much! Such a special couple! Our prayers are with you Linda! We know that you will miss him dearly. I am so sorry. We will continue to keep you close in thoughts and prayers. Please call on us when we can help you. We really want to stay close to you and help however we can!

George was a wonderful friend. He picked me up when I down and stood by me in tough times and helped me learn from my mistakes. He was also there during the good times to cheer me on. I'll miss the NASCAR, NFL and UT football TV times spent with George. But mostly, I'll miss my friend who made my world a better place just by being there.
