Walter Stickel Obituary

WALTER LEROY STICKEL Oct. 14, 1911 - Feb. 16, 2002 Loki, his wife of 62 years, preceded him in death in 1999. Although born in Kearney, Nebraska, Walt resided most of his life in California, the last 44 years in Encino. He is survived by three devoted daughters, Toni Stitt, Michele (Mark) Doubet and Vikki Stickel; and four grandchildren, Stony and Heidi Stitt, Erica Doubet and Tricia (Ari) Kalin. Walt graduated number two from Hollywood High School at 16. He was part of the Pioneer Group of UCLA from where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and was a Phi Beta Kappa. He was on the debating squad and football and wrestling teams. His Deke Fraternity brothers remained life long friends. Walt continued throughout his life to be a loyal UCLA supporter and sports enthusiast. He was a life long football season ticket holder and was remembered by Coach Toledo on his 90th birthday. Walter was a part of the beginning of television, was National Sales Manager of RCA, Dumont, and Hoffman Television. He took pride in owning the first household TV west of the Mississippi. He later developed his own tele-communication/ electronics business. Walt lived and loved life to it's fullest. He worked hard and played hard. He was very competitive, had a passion for English grammer and words. He wrote hundreds and hundreds of Ogden Nash type "ditties" which are now compiled in a book. He enjoyed Big Band music and crossword puzzles. Walt Stickel will be remembered and admired for his tremendous wit, intelligence, sensitivity, and loyalty to all those who were a part of his life. will miss him so much.
