Fay Bergerman Obituary

Bergerman, Fay Schiller
A life of caring, charitable giving, community volunteerism - and tennis ended when Fay Schiller Bergerman died on Friday, March 4, 2005. Fay Bergerman liked to say that she came into the world on the same day as Shakespeare and Marilyn Monroe, April 23. She was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1915 to Meyer Bear Schiller and Frieda Shohat, and circumstances led to the family's four children being raised in a series of foster homes. When her first marriage to Bill Levy ended in divorce, she carved out an executive career at J. Halperin & Co., Mortgage Servicing. After marrying Stanley Bergerman, she continued her lifelong volunteerism, primarily to the American Red Cross, Westside Chapter, receiving a Candlelight Award and her 50-year volunteer pin. Fay Bergerman was known by everyone for her beauty, capability, and enormous capacity to care. She began playing tennis as a pre-teenager. A longtime top player at Brentwood Country Club, she played tennis until she was 81. Stanley Bergerman, her husband of 31 years, died in 1998. Her sisters, twins Susan and Naomi, also predeceased her. She is survived by her brother, Michael Schiller; daughters, Nancy Tack and Joan Silver (Alan Silver); grandchildren, Amanda Toon (Sean Toon), Maggie Tack (Rick Garretson), Bryan Tack, Casey Silver and Emily Silver; and great-grandchildren, Connor Jackson Toon and Ryan Helena Garretson. Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at Hillside Memorial Park (800)576-1994.
