Leslie Hauptman Gerson
Leslie Gerson Obituary
The daughter of Ruby and Wesley Hauptman, Leslie grew up in Los Angeles and graduated from University High School. She began her studies at UCLA, leaving in 1957 to work and get married. Her marriage with Mort Gerson spanned 66 years. After her children were raised, she went back to school and finished what she started, graduating in 1975 with a degree in Sociology. She lived in Brentwood, Santa Monica, and Malibu at various points.
She and Mort had three children: David Gerson, Robert Gerson, and Joanne Gerson Blum. She was preceded in death by her son Robert. She is survived by her husband Mort, her son David, her daughter Joanne and son-in-law Scott Blum, and her granddaughters Emma and Paige Blum.
Vivacious and intelligent, Leslie always spoke her mind. She was funny and quick, kept a tight circle of friends she loved deeply, and had a way of making people feel special. She was a wonderful cook and a natural entertainer.
Gardening was her great love. She built a landscape design and installation business, and had a genuine gift for growing things, flowers most of all, which she arranged as beautifully as she grew them. She also taught Early Childhood Education and worked in interior design.
She had a passion for sweets: Turkish coffee ice cream and the alligator pastries from Viktor Bene Bakery were a couple of her favorites. She played tennis and skied. She loved to travel, whether it was trekking through the Alps or sailing through the South Pacific. She enjoyed the good things in life. She and Mort loved visiting Honolulu. They spent their time hanging out at the Outrigger canoe club and collecting sea glass on the beach.
Leslie lived with Parkinson's Disease for many years and faced it on her own terms.
Her ashes will be spread at sea at Diamond Head in Honolulu. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. May her memory be a blessing.
