Hal Cooper Obituary
Cooper, Hal B.H. Passed away on May 23, 2001. Dr Cooper was born in the American Canal Zone, November 4, 1910. He is survived by his, three children, Dr. Hal B.H. Cooper, Jr. of Kirkland, Washington, Robert B. Cooper, of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA and John D. Cooper, of Temple City, CA. His daughter Sharon Cooper passed away in 1994 and was predeceased by his wife, Zerelda N. Cooper who passed away in 1998. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Dr. Cooper was raised in the Panama Canal Zone and graduated from the American High School in 1926. He subsequently attended Iowa State College in Ames, Iowa in 1936 where he majored in Chemical Engineering and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He later attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he obtained his MS in Chemical Engineering in 1938 and later obtained his PhD in Chemical Engineering in 1942 from Iowa State. He moved to La Canada Flintridge in 1955 with his family from Bound Brook, New Jersey. He had a career which spanned over 50 years and worked for American Cyanamid Company, Colgate Palmolive Company, and American Potash and Chemical. Following he was a founder of Cheminox, Inc. and started Cooper Engineering and Research and EC&C Technologies. Dr. Cooper was a prolific inventor and obtained over 30 chemical process patents. Some of the processes he developed are still in use today. He was a member of many professional organizations and was listed in Who's Who, Who's Who in American Technology and Engineering. Dr. Cooper was a talented gourmet and enjoyed cooking. He found enjoyment working in his yard and growing fruits and vegetables. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Services will be held at the Old North Church at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills at 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles at 10:30 AM on Friday, June 1, 2001. Vistation will be available on Wednesday and Thursday, May 30 and 31st, between the hours of 4-8PM at Forest Lawn.
