So devastated not to have heard about Bud's passing until a legal event last night. My condolences go out to Mary and the entire Bogust family.
Bud hired me to my first position as an attorney with a large law firm in 1983 at Chase Rotchford Drukker & Bogust. I was something of his right hand man for about three years. He was a wonderful boss and mentor with whom I stayed in contact throughout the years. We last spoke in October or November of last year.
My wife Debby and I always laugh about an evening we had Bud and Mary over for dinner. Debby was so nervous about the dinner being perfect. It was and it really didn't matter. For the senior and managing partner of a large multiple office law firm, Bud was as down-to-Earth as anyone could be.
As the father of 14, he always said he came to work to relax because it was easier to deal with 45 lawyers than 14 kids. He also said he had a jury and two alternates.
He taught us to be aggressive advocates for our clients while remaining professional and collegial with our adversaries. You wanted to be able to go at it at a deposition, hearing or trial but still be able to go out for drinks when it was over.
I'll miss our periodic conversations and his always positive and encouraging comments. Chase Rotchford was a great training ground for literally hundreds of fine lawyers still practicing today. So many brilliant trial attorneys from whom to draw. But it still started at the top.
