Sister Eleanor Eagan

May 8, 1929 - June 22, 2017 Eagan, Eleanor J., C.S.J. age 88, passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2017 in Los Angeles, CA. Born May 8, 1929 in Long Island, New York, a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet since August 15, 1950. She was the youngest of five children. It was her older sister who suggested naming her after Eleanor Roosevelt. In 1950, when Ellie informed her family of her upcoming entrance into community, her brother Jack responded, "I think you're a fool but as long as you're going, please try to be a good nun!" After twenty years teaching or administering in Southern California high schools, Sister began a 35-year career at Carondelet High School in Concord. Sister Eleanor retired in 2016 and joined Holy Family Community in May 2016, bringing with her an immense appreciation for family, friends, former students, CSJ community and all who shared her love for words, her uniquely Eastern perspective and her quirky Eagan humor. Rest in peace, Ellie! You did it your way! She is survived by her numerous nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Funeral Liturgy Memorial will be held at the Carondelet Center in Los Angeles on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 11AM. Private inurnment will take place at another time.
