Peter Sullivan Obituary

December 20, 1936 - January 31, 2021 Peter Joseph Sullivan, born 1936 in Philadelphia, PA died peacefully at home on January 31, 2021 in Santa Monica, CA. Peter grew up in Los Angeles and attended St. Gregory's Elementary School, LA High School, Los Angeles City College and, finally, Loyola Law School. He practiced law in Los Angeles for over 45 years and headed up several successful firms that bore his name. Peter loved the Olympics and attended many of them, he traveled the world and was happiest on a plane to a new adventure. Music brought joy to Peter and he loved so many artists but particularly Frank Sinatra, Al Green, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. He did a great Mick Jagger impression. Throughout his life, Peter was a loving husband, a devoted father and could be counted on by family and friends. He greatly loved his four sisters. His home hosted many celebrations and was a welcoming gathering place. Peter was a great mentor to many young lawyers starting their career. He relished a lively conversation and encouraged discussion of big ideas. His faith was an integral part of who he was and he was an active parishioner at St. Monica's in Santa Monica. Peter's guiding motto was "Follow your heart," and he did just that. Peter is survived by his wife Carol, his daughters Shannon, Erin and Mary Kate, his stepdaughter Antoinette and stepson Jay, his grandchildren, Nicholas, Christopher, Bronwyn, Jason, Caitlin, Sophie and Sean, his two sisters, Frances and Mary Jane and his former wife Pat, mother to his eldest two children. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frances and Peter Joseph Sr., his wife Monika and his sisters Ann Joan and Helen. Peter would have loved a traditional Irish wake. There wouldn't have been a dry eye in the house once his sisters started singing "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling". Due to Covid, there will be a small family ceremony at Holy Cross Cemetery with a Zoom memorial to follow. Family and friends please email peterjsullivanmemorial@gmail if you'd like a link. In lieu of flowers, please listen to your favorite song, turn it up and think of Peter.

He loved life, if you had a story he sure would loved to hear it. Spending time with my Uncle Pete in Spain during the Olympics was awesome. Of course we emptied the bar and shared great stories of life. Missing you Peter J. Peter J. Sloss

I always remember Peter as the loudest and and happiest member of all family gatherings. It always seemed he was overjoyed to see us no matter how long it had been since we had last seen him, but my best memory of Peter, was traveling with my dad, and he and Carol and Mary Kate through the countryside in County Kerry Ireland. He was so happy to be there meeting more people that he could call family! When Irish eyes are Smiling...we will miss you uncle Peter!
