William Stanton Obituary

William Weber Stanton, Jr., M.D. February 14, 1943 - November 1, 2018 Dr. Bill passed away after a brief illness. He leaves Mary, his wife of 52 years; his children, Laura (Darren Carson), Jack (Karen Honda); grandchildren, Taylor, Wyatt, Lily and Chase; his cousin, John Avery; and his golden, Zack. Dr. Bill was a proud L.B. Poly alum. He went on to graduate Phi Beta Kappa from Dartmouth College, then earned his M.D. from UCSF, followed by internship at UCSD and residency at UCI. He served 2 years in the Army Medical Corp at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland. The family returned to Long Beach, where he joined his father at Obispo Medical Clinic and became the 3rd generation Dr. Stanton, caring for patients. Dr. Bill loved the White Mountains of Arizona, the Sunlight Basin of Wyoming, sailing to Catalina as well as the many travels to the 4 corners of the world. He delighted in sharing his love of history with the family, especially the little known facts to make a castle or battlefield come alive. Bill was also passionate about the daily crosswords and a good game of bridge. He will be missed. Please sign the guestbook at www.presstelegram.com/obits

I have just learned of Bill's passing and am greatly saddened by the news. Bill was a close friend and valued colleague during our 2 years together as surgeons in the Army at Aberdeen Proving Ground. Had the situations in our lives been different, we might well have practiced together after leaving the service. My sincere condolences to Mary, Laura, and Jack.

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Dr Bill. He and his brother and father became our family Drs after we moved to Long Beach in 1945. They remained our family Drs until we moved away in 1982. They removed appendix, delivered babies. Set broken arms as well as many other ailments. I have thought so often how they were such an integral part of our family. What great human beings they all were.
