Jannetje VANDERSTOEL Obituary

Published by Regina Leader-Post on Dec. 16, 2017.

JANNETJE (JANE) VANDERSTOEL
Jane passed on to her heavenly home peacefully with her children by her side on Wednesday, December 13, 2017. During her final week family members were privileged to gather around her bedside at College Park II Retirement Home to reminisce and to say goodbye. She was predeceased by her parents, Stoffel and Marina Wesdyk; her husband, Simon; her daughter Betty; her brother, Bart Wesdyk, and sister, Gysje Groenendyk. Jane is survived by her loving children, Marina (Rik) Katerberg, Jo-anne (Reg) Nelson, and Chris (Theresa); grandchildren, Taylor (Claire), Alyssa (Sean), Rachel, Haydon, Brianna, Sydney, Chelsea, Serena, Travis, and Samantha; great-grandchildren, Veronica, Sutter, Scarlet, Jasper, and Nash; brothers, Leen (Audrey) Wesdyk , Arie (Clary) Wesdyk, Henk (Elsie) Wesdyk; brothers-in-law, Hendrik (Coby) Vanderstoel, Piet (Riet) Vanderstoel; sisters-in-law, Griet Ruitenburg, Mar van de Vis, Jaantje Doornenbal, and Anna Vergunst; and many other family members and close friends. Jane was born on January 3, 1934, in Sommelsdijk, The Netherlands, and immigrated to Canada with her family in 1954. They settled in Regina where she worked at various jobs. On October 27, 1956 she married Simon Vanderstoel, a farm hand working for Don and Evelyn McGillivray. The McGillivrays moved to Regina and the newlyweds lived on the farm, eventually purchasing the homestead in 1972. Jane honed her gardening and cooking skills on the farm while raising her family. She was active in the community as part of the Cottonwood (and later Pense) United Church Women's group and teaching sewing in 4-H. Jannetje was also active in many ways at her Regina church community. In addition, she was skilled in sewing, crocheting, knitting, and other crafting. During the years on the farm there was a steady stream of visitors – family and friends – who were all warmly welcomed. Grandchildren were the beneficiaries of time spent with 'Oma' – crafting, shopping trips, and sleep-overs. Jane was a loving and giving person, whose strong faith gave her strength and joy even in the difficult times. We were all blessed to have had her in our lives. Visitation for family and friends will be held in the College Park II Chapel, 1601 Badham Blvd, Regina, SK on Monday, December 18, 2017 from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at Sonlight Christian Reformed Church, 139 Cannon Street, Regina, SK on Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Charles Kooger officiating. Interment at Cottonwood Cemetery. The family wishes to thank Dr. Bester and College Park II for their kind, compassionate, and loving care for Jane. Over the three years that she spent at College Park II the staff became loved members of Jane's extended family. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jane may be made to the Huntington Society of Canada (www.huntingtonsociety.ca). Marina, Joanne and Chris,

Vert sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. I have very fond memories of her from when I was a child and I used to stay at the farm overnight with Betty on occasion. Please accept my condolences. She was a lovely person.
