Douglas Heck Obituary

Douglas Alan Heck

Temple, NH — Douglas Alan Heck, 61, of Temple, NH passed unexpectedly in his home on Saturday May 8, 2021. He was born in Angola, IN on February 12, 1960 to parents Barbara Jean Thomas Heck (deceased) and George Heck, presently of Bedford, NH.

When Doug was a child, the Heck family moved to a small farm in Temple NH where Doug tended animals, raised vegetables, and repaired buildings and equipment. Doug attended Temple Elementary School and ConVal High School. In his early career, he went to work with some local long-distant trucking companies, and then traveled the U.S. installing office furniture. These travels took Doug to Amarillo Texas where he won The Big Texan's "72oz Steak Challenge" and has his name engraved on the wall of fame there. Doug became skilled at metal fabrication and welding at Donovan Equipment Company in Londonderry, and then opened Heck's Welding in Temple in the late 80s. He earned a reputation for meticulous attention to detail and a demand for perfection. He created family furniture pieces which involved complex metal work. Over the years, Doug added mechanical services to his business, repairing equipment for local companies, and recently qualified as a NH Safety Inspection Station.

Doug loved his town of Temple. He walked its roads and played in its fields and woods and streams all his life. He served for years on the Capital Improvements Committee and advised regularly on town equipment purchases. For 20 years Doug removed snow from Temple driveways, giving each home the same care as he gave his own.

Doug will be remembered for his caring and familiar way, and his willingness to drop everything to support a friend. He gave thoughtful consideration to every situation, saving his family from many a snap decision by encouraging them to slow down and talk it out, much to their exasperation (and secret appreciation). Temple residents often stopped by to chat with Doug in front of his shop, parting ways hours later with a smile and a laugh.

Doug leaves behind his adoring wife Maggie Heck, his daughter Megan Heck of Jaffrey, his step-son Rob Peterson of Ashland, step-daughter Danielle Noir and her husband Ryan of CT, sister Jeanne Morin and her husband Ron of Mont Vernon, brother Bruce Heck and his wife Claire out of Wilton, brother Martin Heck of VT, nieces and nephews Kyle, Andrea, Steven, Pippa, Isaac, Charlie, Debbie and Chris.

All are welcome at Doug's services. Service information will be posted to www.michaudfuneralhome.com when it becomes available.

The arrangements are in the care of the Michaud Funeral Home, 32 Maple St., Wilton, NH. To view an online obituary or leave a condolence, please visit our website at www.michaudfuneralhome.com.

I enjoyed visiting with Doug. We often would start out talking "shop" and get off on a different subject, time would slip away.I valued his opinion and experience, I'll miss his company, as I'm sure many will. I'm very sorry to hear of his passing.
