RIEL, Mr. John Torrey, of South Hill, died June 19, 2013. He was a member of South Hill Presbyterian Church, the South Hill Rotary Club, a graduate of University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and a former member of the South Hill Town Council. Mr. Riel is survived by his wife of 71 years, Elizabeth Gordon Riel; a sister, Chris Rhodes of Fort Collins, Colo.; a sister-in-law, Rebecca G. Hoggard and husband, Richard, of Ahoskie, N.C.; three nieces, Torrey Gray of Denver, Robin Schottleutner of Costa Rica, and Beth Hoggard of Durham; four nephews, Dr. Jeffrey Hoggard and Norfleet Hoggard, both of Raleigh, Church Rhodes of Denver and Dr. Bill Rhodes of Kenya, Africa. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in the South Hill Presbyterian Church. Private interment in Crestview Memorial Park. Visitation at the church following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the South Hill Presbyterian Church, 914 North Mecklenburg Ave., South Hill, Va. 23970, or the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be sent through www.crowderhitecrews.com. Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
