Elizabeth A. Riel, 37, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, in RI Hospital, Providence surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Benjamin E. Riel. They have been married for the past 5 years.
Born in Pawtucket, she was the daughter of Deborah (Belisle) Callahan of Cumberland and the late Joseph Kelleher. Liz was a lifelong resident of Cumberland.
She was a graduate of Cumberland High School class of 2006.
Liz was a vibrant spirit whose passions colored every part of her life. A devoted fan of the New England Patriots, she never missed a game and cheered with boundless enthusiasm. She found joy in painting and creative expression, balanced by a deep dedication to fitness-whether she was at the gym, running long distances, or exploring new corners of the world through her travels. Her love for her dogs was unmatched, and they were constant, cherished companions. She also held a special fondness for proms, treasuring the magic and excitement they brought. Her warmth, energy, and zest for life will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her husband and mother she is survived by her sister Crystal Tripp and her husband Joseph of Attleboro and her brother Russell Nordstedt and his wife Maria of California. Her two nieces, Isabella Citro, Rielly Nordstedt, and three nephews, Eli Tripp, Odin Tripp, and Silas Tripp, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Liz's Life Celebration to begin with Visiting Hours on Monday, July 7, 2025, from 10 AM to 12 PM followed by a Prayer Service at 12 PM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road Cumberland. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Rhode Island SPCA, 155 Plan Way, Warwick, RI 02886.
