Martha-Carol was born October 12, 1924 in Ossining, NY, in Westchester County, to parents Hilda Cecilia and Per Fredrik Thavenius. They moved to Sweden for a time before returning to New York. Martha graduated from Ossining High School, attended the New York Art Alliance, and Briarcliff College. An avid learner and perpetual student, she later studied rehabilitation sciences in which she received a Bachelor of Science from Stephen F. Austin State University. During World War II, she worked for the Office of Censorship in New York City and served in the WAVES in Inyokeron, CA. She married Richard Jacobson in 1947 in Ossining. She was always involved with organizations that assisted young women with life skills, as well as financial aid and scholarships, such as the Girls' Service League and the UTA Dee Dee Dickerson Scholarship Fund. Martha was extremely proud to achieve Life Master in bridge when she was 86. Preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years, Richard Jacobson, and her brother, Owen E. Reuterwall, Jr of Tampa, FL. Survived by her son, Gordon Jacobson and wife, Rose, of AZ; daughters, Nan Waller of Arlington, Sue Bailey and husband, Charles Bailey MD, of Austin; sister, Elsa Dales and husband, Graham, of MD; sisters-in-law, Alice Jacobson Young of UT and Liz Reuterwall, of FL; grandchildren, Cpt. Such a classy, lovely lady. She was such a wonderful friend to our mother Zora Bontley at Town Village. She reintroduced Zora to bridge after two months of rehab this fall. Since Martha's 90th birthday, her "new lease on life"--as she called it--brought joy to all of us. Her passing is a loss, but what a way to go out. Blessings to all who knew and loved her.
