David Daniel Marold passed away peacefully at his country home in Warren, Texas, on Friday, the 11th of June 2021. He was 79 years of age.
He was born on the 23rd of May 1942, to Audrey Bernadette Conway Marold and Louis Joseph Marold in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He attended Cheyenne Mountain School in Colorado Springs and graduated from St. Joseph Military Academy in Hays, Kansas, in 1961. David attended Regis University in Denver and the University of St. Thomas in Houston. On the 28th of July 1966 David married Mary Crotty Carter in a beautiful ceremony at St. Anne Catholic Church in Houston.
He died the way he lived… he wrote his own rules, wore many "hats," and connected with every person his path crossed. And he had many paths. David worked for Chemical Bank and Trust in Houston. He then created Temple and Marold Demolishing Company with George Temple. In 1972 he embarked on a new path with his wife Mary and his late father-in-law Victor Neuhaus Carter. The trio created Sonderegger Maine Anjou (purebred Maine Anjou cattle operation involved in genetics for seed stock with show champions nationwide) from 1972 – 1996 in Warren, Texas, and then in Westcliffe, Colorado. In the early part of 1970, Sonderegger was involved with Goliath Cattle Company and imported the first Maine Anjou cattle into the United States. Out of Sonderegger spun High Country Cattle Services and High-Country Genetics. In 1996 David and his wife Mary left the mountains and country life of Colorado and returned to Houston. In 1996 David and Leonard Halpern with the support of Mary created Essential Settings Inc., a purveyor of fine china and household goods. In 2006 he partnered with James Steele for STTEP International Ltd., an international, privately-owned military, intelligence, law enforcement training, and advisory company. David was active in Republican politics his entire life. He was precinct chair of his precinct in Houston in the late 1960's early 1970's. David worked on numerous Republican campaigns in his lifetime. David served as a Director on the American Maine-Anjou Association for many years and he served as President for a term beginning in 1984. He served as a Director of the National Cattleman's Association for years. David was a Director of the National Farmers Market Association in Colorado. Most recently David served on the Tyler County Historical Commission with a mission to make sure the Tyler County Court House was restored and preserved to its natural beauty. David was a member of the Houston Country Club, the Garden of the Gods Club, Silver Spur Club (National Western Livestock Show), and the 1100 Club (Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
David was a rare combination of someone who had an extreme love of life and a firm understanding of what was important….his family. David is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Crotty Carter Marold; his daughters, Marion Marold Vickerman (Shannon Counsil), Camden Marold Gillum (Tyler), and Sarah Marold Clymer (William). He was a proud grandfather of Lauren, Katherine, Tyler, Hadley (Chelsea), Hayden, Elizabeth, Mary, and George. He also leaves behind his brothers, Richard Marold (Terri) Ronald Marold (Suzanne) and sister-in-law Anne Carter Parker. David was proceeded in death by his brother, Louis J Marold; and brother-in-law Victor Neuhaus Carter II.
The family would like to recognize David Redecop, the ranch manager, who would move mountains for the "old guy" day and night, Dolly McIntyre who was a sweet, kind presence in his life for many years, and to his amazing loving caregivers who saw him through to the end Sabra, Regina, Raven, Beulah, Coterra, Mona and all of the other caregivers that have come and gone from Lending a Loving Hand. A special thank you to Dr. Lisa Ehrlich for her years of amazing care and to Olive Branch Hospice and Greg Gray for providing a peaceful passage.
An Interment is to be conducted at twelve o'clock noon on Saturday, the 19th of June, at Glenwood Cemetery, 2525 Washington Avenue in Houston. A uniformed steward from Geo. H. Lewis & Sons will be positioned at the cemetery entrance to direct attendees to the gravesite.
Following the interment, all are invited to gather with the family and share remembrances of David during a reception to be held from half-past twelve o'clock until half-past two o'clock in the afternoon, in the grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons.
The memorial service will immediately follow the reception in the adjacent Jasek Chapel, where Fr. David Zapalac, CSB, Pastor of St. Anne Catholic Church, is to officiate.
For those unable to attend in Houston, another memorial service is to be conducted at one o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 26th of June, at the Statue of St. Francis, 950 County Road 1300 in Warren, Texas. A reception will again follow at a venue to be announced during the service.
