Mona Russell Obituary

Mona Russell

Mona Russell, 68, passed away on January 14, 2023, in Vero Beach, FL.

She was born September 7, 1954, in Toledo, Ohio to Al Russell and Helen Russell.

She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Hess; mother, Helen Russell; sister, Sharon Aloni; brother, Gary Russell; and nieces and nephew.

Mona was a realtor in the Toledo area for many years beginning with Grogan Realty and ending with Welles-Bowen Realty.

Mona and Bob lived for many years at Hidden Harbour in Holland, OH and loved the lake life with their many friends. In 1999, they moved aboard their sailboat, Mutual Fun, and lived on board for three years. They cruised the US East Coast, Bermuda, the Bahamas, the Caribbean from Maine to Venezuela. Their adventures can be followed online on Mona's log at Mutualfun.fws1.com.

In 2007, they became snowbirds and spent winters in Vero Beach, FL, a town they discovered while sailing. They sold their Ohio home in 2019 and moved to Vero year-round.

Mona was an avid pickleball player in Holland and became very involved in the newly forming pickleball community in Vero. This is where she met many wonderful friends that she cherished and missed greatly during her last illness. Mona saw an opportunity through pickleball for a business providing sporty jewelry connected to the sport. She started her company, PB&J, Pickleball and Jewelry, which became a favorite of players across the country. The business was very successful and just recently closed because of her illness.

According to her wishes there will not be a showing or funeral service. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled by the family at a later date.

The family suggests any tributes be made to VNA Hospice of IRC or Pickleball U of Vero Beach, FL.

Bob,
We are so sorry to hear of Mona's passing. She was so active and added so much to our community at Hidden Harbour. We'll always remember her complementing our decor at one of the Board.Meetings. This was very meaningful as she knew her real estate and had lots of experience in this area. May you keep her wonderful memories and legacy in your mind and heart forever.

We were sorry to hear about Mona's illness and passing. Our condolences to Bob and family. We enjoyed having you as neighbors at Del Mar and missed you when you moved to the Moorings. She was congenial and a "bright spot" each time we came back to the condo! Rest in peace.

I'm sorry to hear about your illness and passing. You were brave and strong to the very end.Im glad you and my Dad found each other.. You made him very happy! You were part of the family for over 20 years! You will be dearly missed by all of your step children, Alexander Hess, Jason Hess, Lisa (Hess) Garza, and I, Gretchen (Hess) Sepulveda and grand children and 2 great-granchildren. You are also going to be missed by your sister in law, Carolyn Hess Baker. You could a always brighten up a room and added sparkle to any event. You were more like a friend in that you were so easy to talk to. I'll miss that too! I'm glad you're at peace now and out of pain! May you rest in eternal paradise...
