Kenneth E. Miller

Athol, MA - Kenneth E. Miller of Athol sadly and unexpectedly passed away on January 18, 2023 in Mesa, Arizona. Ken and his wife Patricia Miller have a home in Apache Junction, AZ near their beloved Superstition Mountains. They enjoyed their winters there in addition to living in Athol the rest of the year.

Ken was born in Collinswood, New Jersey to Edith and Louis Miller on September 1, 1939, where he attended Collingswood High School. He then went on to the University of Illinois. While there he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He finished with a degree in business, spending his last semester at the Wharton School of Business in Pennsylvania.

Ken was an early pioneer in the shipping and transportation industry. He worked as a transportation and freight consultant eventually starting and running several companies including Kenneth Miller Associates (KMA), New England Furniture Express (NEFX), Specialized Furniture Carriers Association (SFCA), and the New England Shippers Association (NEFSA) for a span of close to 50 years. Ken also published a shipping resource and reference called Miller's Freight Rate Guide.

Ken married his first wife Jane Boockoff on April 27th, 1963. After moving to Massachusetts they eventually settled in Petersham where they lived happily for 24 years. Following Jane's passing in 1998, Ken remarried Patricia Brown in 2001.

Ken served in the Army and was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He was a member of the Lion's Club, Knights of Columbus and the Petersham Congregational Church.

Ken is preceded in death by his parents Edith and Louis Miller and brother Richard and wife Blanche.

He is survived by his wife Pat, daughter Linda and her husband Stuart and son Jake of Ogunquit, Maine, and his son Todd and wife Tracy of Westminster, Massachusetts and children Nicholas, Laura and Chelsea. Ken is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law Carol and Charles Shropshire of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at 11 am in the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Road, Orange. Burial will follow in East Street Cemetery, Petersham.

Calling hours will be held Friday, February 3rd from 5-7 pm at the funeral home.

The family of Kenneth Miller would like to extend their sincere thanks to the doctors and nursing staff who so kindly took care of Ken in his final days.
