Ruth Thomas Obituary

Ruth Marshall Thomas, 91, of Albany, Georgia, died Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at Dawson Manor Nursing Home. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

She was born on December 17, 1931 in Americus GA, to the late George Octavius and Martha Pryor Marshall. She attended Georgia Southwestern University for two years and graduated from Wake Forest University with a bachelor's degree in English. She and her husband, Russell, resided in Sarasota, Florida from 1952 until she moved to Albany in 2016.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell DeWitt Thomas and her siblings, George O. Marshall, Wilma Marshall Martin, Sue Marshall Smith, and Marianne Marshall Flaherty.

Survivors include her children, Marshall DeWitt Thomas (Mariruth), Virginia Raye Thomas, all of Albany, GA, John Frank Thomas II (Gloria) of Freeport Florida, Philip Paty Thomas (Ann) of Jesup, GA; sister-in-law Eugenia Thomas Evans of Bethesda, Maryland; and grandchildren, Cassie Whittle Kerr (John), Robert DeWitt Thomas (Beth), Gerald Marshall Thomas (Vi), Caroline Whittle Weldon (Brad), Jordan Thomas Branim (Justin), Rachel Elizabeth Thomas, John David Whittle, Jr., John Frank Thomas III (Bethany), Russell DeWitt Thomas, Jr. and eleven great-grandchildren.
