I am so sorry that I missed Bill.... HE CHANGED MY LIFE and by that, in another way...I have to say that he changed 20 to 30 thousand youthful offenders lives. I was a Private in the Marines, he was a company commander.....I got in trouble and faced a special courts martial. Lt Reisert had the authority to have me sent to military prison, kicked out or allowed to stay in. He asked me WHY I SHOULD NOT BE KICKED OUT OF THE MARINES........I was only 17 yrs old and two months......I dropped out of high school in St Louis....being only 5'3......I was a teen on the edge and the Marines was my only hope....that day...I cried....saying that I didn't want to go home as a FAILURE......and I said....looking right at Lt. Reisert....IF YOU LET ME STAY IN....I PROMISE YOU THAT I WILL BE THE BEST MARINE POSSIBLE. He and the other officers decided to allow me to stay in a restart in another platoon. While there....I became the winner of the LEATHERNECK AWARD FOR HIGH RIFLE SHOOTER....AND WAS CONSIDERED TO GRADUATE WITH THE HIGHEST HONORS....but, with my court martial.....I didn't get that high honor.....but, JUST graduating.....I was proud. During our platoon graduation inspection....the inspecting officer stood in front of me..he did not take my rifle......he just stood silent. I WAS AFRAID THAT I WAS IN TROUBLE...then the officer said these words...." YOU PROMISED ME THAT YOU WOULD BE THE BEST MARINE POSSIBLE....YOU KEPT YOUR PROMISE." Breaking the rules......I glanced up and saw Lt Reisert....the man who gave me a 2nd chance, That was April 1961.......45 years later, I called his office in Louiseville........he did not know who was on the phone.....I said these words....." 45 years ago...you said to me....YOU PROMISED ME YOU WOULD BE THE BEST MARINE POSSIBLE AND YOU KEPT YOUR PROMISE." Bill was so excited saying... I REMEMBER THAT and YOU......I told him that I just wanted him to know...what his gift to me...a 2nd chance......what I've been able to do......go back to school, earning degrees in Education, Psychology and criminal Justice.....that for 30 years, every month.....I was proud to give between 20 and 30 thousand FIRST TIME OFFENDERS.....a 2nd chance via the St. Louis County Family Courts.
I pray that his family sees this..... go to: www.plainlabelfamily.com click on this old cop......see the various media stories about my program with teens on the edge.

A popular high school classmate at St.Joe Prep, Bardstown Ky (1950-54). Bill was a good student and all-around athlete who excelled in all sports. He had a positive outlook on life and greeted all with a warm smile.

My condolences to the family. I always enjoyed cousin Bill's company, especially at family events. Bill was 6 months older and in the grade school years he would greet me with a football in one hand and a basket ball in the other. We had fun in friendly competition. Over the years at other occasions he would greet me with that big wonderful smile. I'll miss him as I know many others will too. God now enjoys Bill's presence.
Sincerely,
Cousin Jim

Mr. Reisert was one of my oldest and certainly one of my favorite customers. He was always upbeat and a gentleman. I will certainly miss him calling me "his favorite banker". Sincere thoughts and prayers for his family and friends
