Lois Follis Obituary

Lois Charlton Follis LUBBOCK-Lois Charlton Follis went home to her Lord early in the morning on Feb. 12, 2013, at the age of 83. She was born near Sulphur Springs, Texas, on Dec. 8, 1929, to David and Leila Wofford Charlton. Lois grew up in the Sulphur Springs area and became a legal secretary upon graduation from high school. She married Johnny Follis in 1952, and they moved to Lubbock in 1955. Eventually, Lois became a very successful real estate agent. Lois was an active member of First Baptist Church, where she was president of the Women's Missionary Union, leader of the Girls' Auxiliary, and organizer of numerous Bible schools for children across the city. Determination, hard work, responsibility, love, and compassion for others, along with her faith, were her foundation. Her children and their families were her world, and she will be deeply missed. Lois is survived by six children, Sarah Harris, Mary Jane Jernigan of Maryland, Johnny Follis Jr., James Follis, Margaret Scheer and her husband Ron, and David Follis and his wife Melissa, and 11 grandchildren, Anthony Wilson and his wife Renee, Jason Wilson and his wife Christy, Tamara Arellano, Rachael Weaver and her husband Tony Coynor, Stephanie Greer and her husband Dave, Jonathan Follis, Avery Follis, Addison Follis, Aja Follis, Allison Follis, and Lauren Follis. Also, Lois is survived by eight great-grandchildren, Justin Gwin, Westin Gwin, Katlynn Wilson, Nadia Wilson, Courtny Wilson, Stephen Wilson, Tyler Coynor and Paige Greer. In addition, Lois is survived by her sister, Mary Dea Smith and her husband Roy of Sulphur Springs, Texas, and Roger Charlton and his wife Ann of Williamsburg, Kan. She was predeceased by her parents; her twin brother, Louis Charlton; and by her sister, Nina Charlton. A visitation will be Friday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Sanders Funeral Home and the service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Sanders Funeral Home with burial immediately following in Resthaven Cemetery. Thanks to the dedicated staff at Whisperwood Nursing Facility who helped us take care of our mom, and special thanks to Evelyn Mitchell, her nurse. The family suggests memorials to Buckner's Children's Home.

I worked with your mom in real estate so many years ago & when you described her compassion for others - that said it all. I think I was griping about a listing she had to show that was a mess & Lois said '...well, I have kiddos & I understand'. She was a hard worker & truely, a nice person. My love to your family.
